Denis Roy, 52, of Moncton, passed away accidently on Tuesday
September 7, 2021. Born in Montréal, QC, he was the son of
Bertrand and Annette (Godin) Roy of Dunlop.
The first of his family to undertake university studies,
Denis obtained a doctorate in law from the Université de
Nantes. He spent his academic career at the Université de
Moncton, where he was professor and then dean of the Faculty of Law
until recently. He was proud to be part of a legal community he held
in high regard.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Michelle
LeBlanc; his three children whom he loved with all his heart and of
whom he was so proud: Vincent, Sandrine and Juliette, all of Moncton;
one sister, Suzanne Roy (Rémi Roy) of Nigadoo; one brother,
Luc Roy of Bathurst; his paternal grandmother, Bertha Roy of
Petit-Rocher; his mother-in-law, Rose-Marie of Shippagan, his
brother-in-law, Jean-Philippe as well as several nieces, nephews,
aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Albert and
Evelyne Godin; and his paternal grandfather, Gérard
Roy.
Denis was a complete and complex man. He was both a great
intellectual and a jack of all trades. A sensitive artist and an
outstanding debater. He listened to the ultimate boxing and spoke out
against the excesses of society. His family, his friends and his
students formed his universe.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (858-1900) on Saturday
September 11 from 1 to 4 pm only. Face coverings are recommended and
social distancing regulations are in effect. Interment will be in
Petit-Rocher. In memory of Denis, a contribution to the Jeunes
