It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Dean Lockhart Munro, a much loved husband, father and grandfather, on October 13, 2021. Born in Liverpool, NS on January 10, 1934 to the late Richard Franklin `Frank` Munro and Lexie Kirk Lockhart Munro.
Even as a young child, Dean worked many part time jobs, he loved the outdoors and all sports. He started skiing at a very young age and continued with that sport until he was 82. Dean had a life-long love of music which began with lessons in cornet. When he was in hospital, Monique (Fougere) Natividad came to sing with him once or twice a week. She was there singing for him on the day he died.
He worked his way through university by managing to get work as a dining hall waiter, swimming instructor and lifeguard. He enrolled in the COTC (Canadian Officer in Training Corps).
Frontier College invited him to give English language instructions to immigrants in Alberta.
Upon graduation from Acadia University, with a major in math and German, Dean was awarded the George Wilbert Cox silver cup and gold medal as best all-around student.
He was hired by DND (Department of National Defense) to teach math and German to the dependents of military personnel. His first year in Soest, Germany was at Fort York.
Upon his return to Canada, he taught at Col. Regional High in Onslow. This was one of his most rewarding teaching experiences.
Dean was a life-long member of First Baptist Church, but also attended Immaculate Conception with his wife. She enjoyed going to his Sunday services.
Dean is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail (Hinchey) Munro; son, Steven; daughter-in-law, Melanie; grandson, Evan; his two sisters, Marilyn (Ron) Taylor and Rosanne (Walter) Kopczewski. He was predeceased by son, Kenn; two brothers, Richard and Maurice and stepmother, Rose Pierson. Dean is remembered fondly by grandchildren in Ontario, Aislinn, Finnegan Dean and Lainna. Kenn brought them to our cottage every summer.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Chris Cooke, the staff on the third floor and the staff at Cedarstone. Due to COVID-19 there will be no funeral, but if anyone wishes, a donation to the V.O.N. would be appreciated. Condolences may be made at www.ColchesterCommunity.com
