Obituary of David Jeffery Atkinson
Atkinson: David Jeffrey
May 25th, 1943- June 25th, 2021
David was born on the family Century Farm in Brewer’s Mills, and lived most of his life on the farm doing what he loved. He graduated from Carleton University and Osgoode Hall Law School. He practiced law in Toronto, and later opened his own practice in Kingston, where he was known for his professionalism and integrity. David supported his father’s dairy operation during his law career, and eventually took over the farm and raised beef cattle that were known locally for their gentleness and fine breeding. David had a great affinity for animals: dogs, cats, – even his cows were named and cared for like pets. He took great pride in his herd, and Rideau Spring farm. The original acreage was cleared by his great-grandfather in the 1850’s, and David was the last Atkinson to farm it. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, dry wit, exceptional memory, detailed storytelling and his strong work ethic.
Beloved husband of Maryfil Hunter Atkinson, stepdad of Ellen Riordan (née Hunter) and Thomas Hunter; grandfather to Iva. Lovingly remembered by sisters Diane Litchfield (Phil) and Suzanne Ware, his nieces and nephews, Nathan, Sadie, Chris, Isabella, and Mathieu, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins, and friends in the farming community. Predeceased by his brother-in-law Mike Ware and nephew Jeffrey Ware.
