David « Gerald »‘s Obituary
David “Gerald” Hastie
“Someday I Will Soar Where Only Eagles Dare To Fly.
My Wings Will Span Great Distances In A Clear Blue Sky.”
It is with great sadness & heavy hearts that we, the Hastie & Smith family, share the loss of our beloved Gerald. David Gerald Hastie passed away suddenly and peacefully on April 21, 2021 at Peter D. Clark Centre in Ottawa. He was in his 85th year.
Gerald leaves behind his loving life partner, Frances Smith. Predeceased by his parents Osie and Norma. Survived by his dear brothers Ken (Rena) & Stan (Elizabeth). Proud father and mentor of David (Valerie), Deborah, Barbara (Gary) & Robert (Donna), and Steve (Faye), Greg (Linda), Kim (Sean) & Lisa.
He will be missed by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, & so many friends.
Gerald was born and raised in the Town of Carleton Place, where he worked and lived his entire life. He deeply enjoyed his connection to the community as an exceptional & talented tradesman. He was also a trainer of hawks, pilot of planes, and storyteller extraordinaire. Gerald was proud of his Lanark County roots & loved calling Carleton Place his home.
Donations to Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital are welcome in his memory.
A private service will be held for the immediate family in light of covid restrictions.
The service will be streamed live on YouTube. Service time for live stream will be announced here when times have been confirmed.
