Powers, Daniel Robert (Bob)
County of Parkland
On August 26, 2021 at the age of 90, Bob began his journey to be with his wife Betty, parents Ernest and Hilda, sisters Dorothy and Marge, brother Harold, in-laws Ted and Edna Eustace and other family and friends.
Bob was born in Isley, Alberta. The family moved to the Westmount district of Edmonton soon after and over the next several years six siblings, Dorothy, Marge, Kae, Helen, Harold and Don arrived. Bob attended Westglen School and one of his proudest accomplishments was winning the city high jump championship in grade six.
In the 1950’s Bob married Betty, welcomed their two children and started his own long haul trucking business.
In the 1960’s the family moved to Jasper Place, settled in the Elmwood community and purchased property (the farm) in the County of Parkland near Wabamun.
Eventually Bob left trucking and drove bus for Canadian Coachways for several years before settling on the farm full time to raise purebred Limousin cattle. Bob was a member of the Canadian Limousin Association and won numerous awards at cattle shows. In his spare time Bob enjoyed building model trucks and airplanes, making clocks out of pieces of sliced tree trunks and watching hockey and football.
To wish him well on his journey, Bob leaves his children Rick (Wabamun), Barbara (Edmonton), sisters Kae Noreyko and Helen Salemi in California, brother Don (Ruth) (Edmonton), sister and brother-in-laws Pat and Gerry Heatherington (Edmonton), brother-in-law Archer Benzel (Vancouver), sister-in-law Alicia Powers (Spain) as well as numerous nephews, nieces, their children, extended family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In keeping with Bob’s love of animals, if friends so desire donations may be made to the Alberta SPCA or other animal rescue organizations.
Rick and Barb wish to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Kipnes Centre for Veterans for their respectful, compassionate care and support over the last two and a half+ years.
