“A great man is one who leaves others at a loss after he is gone.”
Norman Dahl, a beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Friend passed away peacefully at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital on February 21, 2021, at the age of 86.
Norman was one of seven children born to Kristine and Martin Dahl in Edberg, Alberta. He later moved to a farm in the Brandland-Whilhelmina District (near Kingman) in 1936. After graduating, Norman began working for an oil company in Drayton Valley. In 1955, he and his younger brother, Lloyd, travelled to the Northwest Territories to work for the Eldorado Mining Company for 18 months.
Upon returning (to civilization), Norman worked for Sherritt Gordon Mines (Ft. Sask.) until retirement in 1996.
Norman was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and berry picking (he was known to bring home the odd pail (truck load) of berries!) Family meant everything to him, and his gentle manner and kind heart touched all who knew him.
The way he said “unbeliebable” in his funny way, will echo in all of our hearts: and yes, he truly was UNBELIEVABLE!
Norman is loved dearly, respected greatly and will be remembered forever. He is survived by his loving wife, Deanna (married for 62 years), two sisters; Mildred and Alice, four daughters; Janet Dahl-Freeman, Norma Omichinski (Grant), Lynn Childs (Winston), Sharon Dahl-Smith, eleven grandchildren; Jackson, Kole, Morgan (Kyle), Madison, Angela (Damian), Tomas, Dayna (Kevin), Robyn, Lana, Matthew and Jordan, and four great grandchildren; Amelia, Nadia, Merrick and Carver.
Deanna and family are so grateful for the exceptional care Norman received from the doctors and nurses while at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital.
Viewing will be held at Serenity Funeral Service (9914 103 St., Ft Sask.) on Friday, March 5, 2021, from 1 pm -4 pm. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, there will be a private burial with family only, on Saturday, March 6th, at 2 pm.
