It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Cynthia Marie Byrne (Nee Bridgeman), aged 57 years. Cynthia passed away peacefully on October 29th, 2021 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Predeceased by her mother Rita Bridgeman (Nee White); Father Nicholas Bridgeman, and in-laws James and Elizabeth Byrne.
Left to mourn Cynthia’s passing is her ever loving husband of 39 years, Michael Byrne, and daughters Sherri White (Derek); Jennifer Byrne (Randy Brown); Chantelle Byrne (Caleb Dwyer), as well as her grandsons Mackenzie Brown (Michaela Gushue) and Brady Brown. Also left to mourn her passing are her 10 siblings; Madonna MacDonald (Ignatius); Shirley Ryan (Terry); Maureen Aylward (Cyril, predeceased); Patricia Ryan (Wilfred, predeceased); Gary Bridgeman; Linda Daigle (Shawn); Rita Walsh (David); Pauline Smith (Steven); Nicholas Bridgeman Jr. (Deanne) and Lori Dowden (Bill St. Croix). Leaving to mourn as well are her 34 nieces and nephews.
Cynthia was born and raised on St. Brendan’s Island, Newfoundland, where she met and married her husband, Michael (1982) and together they raised three children and welcomed two grandchildren. Cynthia was known for her love for her family, her cup of tea, bingo and was always willing to chat and laugh with everyone. In 2017, our family was forever changed following Cynthia’s cancer diagnosis and the years that followed were filled with various triumphs and setbacks. It would be wrong to say that mom lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have broken and given up, mom stayed strong and through her we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. Just because she is no longer here, is does not mean that she lost her fight.
While there have been to many medical professionals to mention them all by name, we would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful team of doctors and nurses at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic for their years of exceptional care and treatment and the doctors and nurses at both the Health Sciences Center and St. Claire’s Mercy Hospital. A special thank you to the palliative care team with Eastern Health for their treatment and support during Cynthia’s final months while at home, and finally to the team at the Miller Centre who ensured that her final days were peaceful.
Our family also wishes to express our gratitude and appreciation to those who have called, visited, sent messages, food and/or flowers – your kindness and support during this most difficult time will never be forgotten.
Resting at St. Gabriel’s Church, St. Brendan’s with interment entrusted to Oram’s Funeral Home. Funeral will take place Wednesday, November 3rd at 11am from St. Gabriel’s Church. Flowers graciously accepted or donations can be made in Cynthia’s memory to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation.
Mother, you were just a girl,
So many years ago,
You had your loves and had your dreams,
You watched us come and go,
You watched us make the same mistakes,
That you had made before,
But that just made you hold us tight,
And love us all the more.
We haven’t always thought about
The things that you have seen.
To us you’ve just been “mother,”
No thought of who you’ve been.
But we remember now in love,
Your life from start to end,
And we’re just glad we knew you,
As Mother, and as Friend
