Ytsma, Cornelia “Lea” (nee Nicolai)
Lea passed away peacefully at the CKHA- Chatham Campus on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 in her 88th year. Predeceased by her husband, Tjeerd “Jerry” Ytsma (2018).
Lea was born in Scheenda, The Netherlands in 1933 and was the daughter of the late Ruurd and Jacoba (nee Westerman) Nicolai.
She immigrated to Chatham, Ontario in 1954. She is survived by three sons, Ron and his wife MaryLynn, Harold and Michael and his wife Diana, all of Chatham. Predeceased by brothers Cornelius (1948) and Gerard (2013) Nicolai.
Sadly missed by her four grandchildren, Matthew (Tanya), Sarah (Brian), Chad (Ferren) and Cory.
Great Oma to Hailey, Nathan, Olivia, Emily, Maximus, Landan, Everett and Clayton.
She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church, Chatham, past member of the Laudate Dominum Choir.
Lea was employed at Alberto’s Restaurant and later at Smitty’s Restaurant until her retirement in 1993. She was a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels Program. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the 4th floor Chronic Care Ward and Chatham Retirement Resort. Also special thanks to her favorite nurse Lorain.
Friends and family will be received at First Christian Reformed Church, 25 Tweedsmuir Avenue East, Chatham, ON, on Friday, August 27, 2021 from 10-11 am with the Funeral service to follow. Pastor Nathaniel Van Denend, officiating. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery.
Donations to World Vision or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by her family.
