Connie’s Obituary
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our mom, Constance Lorraine Knox (Allan) on April 2, 2021 at Forest Dale Home in Riverside-Albert. Born in Saint John on March 16, 1931, she was the daughter of Catherine (Coss) & John Allan. Catherine (Grammy) was pregnant with mom during the long sea voyage from Scotland to Canada, but she didn’t wait long after arrival to become the first Canadian born in her family.
Connie was predeceased by her husband Howard (1999), and her sisters Jean (1981) & Louise (2014).
Connie’s most coveted role was mother to her 4 children and 3 grandchildren. She is survived by daughters Jean (Greg) & Bette (Roger), her sons Doug (Gail) & John and her grandchildren Alex Smyth, Hilary Smyth & Jeffrey Knox. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Connie was an active member of Park Ave United & Silver Falls United Church in Saint John, St James United in Woodstock and most recently Mount Royal United in Moncton. She served the congregation in many capacities over the years and was a lifetime member of the UCW.
Mom was an active volunteer in many capacities and organizations over the years. Good chance if there was a community supper, bottle drive, bake/craft sale, she was contributing by cooking, serving, selling or driving. She loved quilting and would attend her quilting group weekly at St James United, a group that continues to this day.
Our mother was an incredibly kind, caring and compassionate person who endlessly gave of her time and energies for the betterment of others in the community, often the underdogs and the under-served, or those who might feel forgotten or lonely.
All those around Connie felt her energy and kindness. She will be greatly missed.
Our mom taught each of us the value of helping others when we could, without expecting anything in return. She taught us how in helping others, we learn and we enrich our own lives and experience. And for each of us, we have found ways to adopt and adapt that lesson into our daily lives.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Forest Dale Home, where mom resided for the past 9 years. Their love and exceptional care gave us much comfort.
Arrangements are under the care of Scott’s Funeral Home,815 Main Street, Woodstock NB with visitation on Monday, April 5th from 2-4 PM & 6-8 PM. Funeral service will be held at the Scott Funeral Home Chapel at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 6th. Private family burial will take place at a future date.
Memorial donations in Connie’s name may be made to Forest Dale Home Foundation or St James United Church Woodstock NB.
If you wish to find a way to honour Connie’s memory, do as Connie did. Please be kind to someone, call a friend or relative you haven’t reached out to recently.
