Colp; Karla Dawn 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, Karla Dawn Colp, at home in Beach Meadows on January 10, 2021.
Born in Liverpool, Karla was the youngest daughter of Marilee (Mitchell) Weagle (Ross Levy) and the late Murdock Weagle.
Karla had boundless energy and an unmatched zest for life. She constantly put her entire heart into everything she did. Of her many passions, cooking was at the top of her list. As a teenager in Barrington, she’d come home from school at lunch to cook for her entire family. This is what initiated her love of cooking. She also wholeheartedly enjoyed her first official job as a baker at the Liverpool Save Easy. Her fond experiences of these times made her blossom into an extremely well-known home cook and baker. She went on to be both an incredible cook and bartender for 15 years at the Liverpool Landing, where so many people shared great times and made lifelong memories. After it burned down in 1997, she briefly worked at the Mersey Hotel Grill but then left to start her next endeavor – becoming the best mother her daughter Kennedy could ever ask for. In 2000, she decided to make her own wedding cake, marking the start of her specialty cake career that lasted 18 years. As if that wasn’t enough, she also catered countless weddings, birthdays, community and work events and also did a large portion of the serving herself. Of course, she always appreciated the help of her “Dream Team” whenever she needed a hand.
Karla also worked tirelessly as a housekeeper for many years, looking after the Emmanuel United Church in Beach Meadows along with the Seaside Centre and Community Hall. Through this work, she became acquainted with a number of people, many of them elderly and in need of companionship which she so graciously provided.
She had a great love for photography and by sharing her iconic snapshots, she gave friends and family the opportunity to see how wonderful the world was through her eyes. Her pictures helped us appreciate the beauty in the simplest things, like a sunrise over the ocean or waves crashing on the foggy shore.
Another one of her favourite pastimes was scouring the shoreline of her favourite beaches for sea glass. She had a surprising amount of knowledge of all the different colours, shades and rarities of each piece. Karla loved the therapeutic combination of sunshine, soothing wave sounds and simply being in the present moment.
Karla had no problem consistently expressing her authentic self. Her vibrancy, goofiness and carefree nature would immediately light up any room. She loved spontaneous road trips with her family, lunch dates, skating and playing dress up at Frenchy’s from time to time. She even knew how to turn a simple grocery store trip into a comedy act.
Perhaps, above all, Karla had one of the most selfless souls out there. Whether you needed a helping hand, advice, a shoulder to cry on or even just a nice belly laugh; she would drop everything no matter who you were. Whenever she went on vacation to her favourite place – Cuba – she’d pack her suitcase to the brim with necessities and distribute them to families in need. Complete and unabashed kindness was her authenticity and is now her legacy.
Besides her mother, Marilee, Karla is survived by her devoted husband Kendell, her daughter Kennedy, sister Karen George and her children Ashley and Tanner, her brothers Kris Weagle (Theresa) and Kevin Weagle (Karen) and his children Cody Whalen and Aaron Weagle.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A private family service will be held at a later date. No flowers, donations may be made to Queens General Hospital Foundation, Queens County Branch VON, or to Palliative Care Initiatives. Online condolences may be made to www.chandlersfuneral.com
