Colin’s Obituary
MacKenzie, Colin Frederick – 60, Malagash, passed away December 16, 2021 with his loving wife of 32 years by his side at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in Pugwash he was a son of the late Ronald “Rollie” and Shirley (Hardie) MacKenzie. Colin loved his family and everything he did was with them in mind. He was the person who could fix anything, solve almost any problem and often came to your rescue in difficult situations whether you were family, friend or a passerby. In his spare time (which there wasn’t much of before retirement) he could usually be found at one of his favourite fishing spots, fishing bass. He was truly the “fish whisperer” and there were many people who looked to him for advice on why he was catching fish and they weren’t. Another love of his were sports of all kinds, but enjoyed his golf games whenever he was free to go. He was a music fan of all genres and he loved to dance. Colin loved to travel and he and his wife were fortunate to have many wonderful trips which created life long memories. Another passion was for good food and was always game to try a new, recommended place to dine whenever possible. Colin’s church family at The Meeting Place were a very important part of his life. Their fellowship, friendship and prayers for him, especially during his illness, were what kept him strong and gave him peace. Colin served proudly with the military as MSE op for approximately three years until his father’s illness. He worked for Seagull Pewter and then went to work at Charman’s Home Hardware in Wallace with Norman Smith, which eventually led to him buying the store and operating it until his retirement last year. He enjoyed the customers he met and his staff, he formed many close friendships because of it. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Vincent) MacKenzie; son, Nicholas MacKenzie, at home; stepson, Andrew (Chantel) Benjamin, Halifax; stepdaughter, Angela Benjamin, Malagash; grandchildren, Quinn, Dylan, Riley; great grandson, Bobbi; sisters, Faye (Jack) MacDonald, Amherst, Shelley (Norval) Benjamin, Pugwash, Kelley MacKenzie (Thane MacDonald), Truro; brother, Larry (Lorna) MacKenzie, Sarnia, Ont.; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Lynn Keiver. A private family service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Mundle’s Funeral Home, Pugwash. Rev. Connie McNamara officiating.
