It is with great sadness that the family of Clarence “Bud” May, 83, of Lunenburg, announce his passing on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater.
Born in Lunenburg, he was a son of the late Chesley May and Myrtle (Fralic) Dover and step-father Celestine Dover.
Clarence began his working career in 1958 at the Lunenburg Fish Plant, then in 1962, fishing, and in 1964 he went to Pictou Navigation School where he learned to be a ships cook and served aboard the Cape Hood. In 1970, he again returned to Navigation School and earned his navigation ticket and served aboard several vessels until he retired in 1997. He was a proud family man who enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geneva; sons, Philip (Liz Campbell) May, Chester, Kevin (Trinda) May, Deans Corner, Craig (Tammy) May, Martins Brook; grandchildren, Whitney, Lindsay; great-grandchild, Marley; sisters, Clara (Job) Crocker, Blue Rocks, Pearl Conrad, Western Shore, Myrtle Parsons, Clearland; brothers, Chesley May, Bridgewater, Gordon (Beatrice) Smith, Sudbury, ON; sister-in-law, Gail Dover, Dayspring; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Mammie Whynot and brother, Christopher Dover.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy #3, Lunenburg. Due to Covid restrictions, a memorial service for Clarence will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore, Diabetes Canada, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
