Clair Major Carruthers 2021

Clair Major Carruthers
The death occurred on Sunday,
the 7th day of March, 2021 at the Mount
Continuing Care Community, Charlottetown, P.E.I. of Clair Major
Carruthers, formerly of Augustine Cove, P.E.I. age 86 years.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew
him.
Clair is lovingly remembered
by his siblings Errol, Margaret Carruthers, Norman (Diana), Elizabeth
« Beth » Cruickshank, Doris « Dodie »
May (Bob May); his nieces and nephews Susan Carruthers (Carl
McKinnon), Karen Thompson (Jamie Thompson), John Carruthers (Susan
MacPherson), Jennifer May (Markus Streibel), Stephen May (Mari
Nemoto), Cathryn Zabaneh (Samir Zabaneh), and Peter Cruickshank; and
his great nieces and nephews Hannah and Caroline Thompson, Callum and
Norah Carruthers, Oliver, Tobias and Veronica Streibel-May, Kenichiro
and Erika May and Michael, Nicholas and Leila
Zabaneh.
Clair was predeceased by his
parents Lorne and Jean (Webster) Carruthers, by his infant twin
sister, Mary Constance, his sister Esther Jorgensen, his sister-in-law
Margaret Berger Carruthers and by his brother-in-law Jim
Cruickshank.
Clair was an excellent
farmer. He took over the family farm in Augustine Cove at the age of
twenty-three following his father’s death. His stewardship
of his animals and the soil was exemplary. For several years he farmed
cooperatively with his uncle, Vernal Webster. He was always willing to
lend a hand to his fellow farmers.
Sports were an important part
of Clair’s life. He played hockey, softball, curling and
golf and enjoyed horse racing and ice fishing. He also excelled at
bowling. Although he never had children of his own, he had a gift
interacting with young people. His quick and easy smile, the
mischievous laughs that he shared, as well as his sheer delight in
sports and games made him a true favourite with his many nieces,
nephews and grand-nieces and -nephews.
Clair’s
well-stocked workshop and his talents at repairing things were well
used and appreciated. He contributed his time and skills to the Cove
community, Crapaud Hockey Rink and Curling Club, Camp Abegweit, South
Shore United Church and the maintenance of the Veterans’
Memorial.
Those in the family that made
their permanent homes off Island depended on Clair to keep them
informed about Island happenings!
The family extend a very
special thank you to the staff at the Mount Continuing Care Community
and, in particular, the staff in the Carriage House, as well as Dr.
Stacy Champion for the care, kindness and compassion they gave to
Clair.
Resting at the Dawson Funeral Home in
Crapaud. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, private funeral service (by
invitation only) will be held at the South Shore United

GOD’s
GARDEN
God looked upon His
garden
and found an empty
space,
Then He looked down on the
earth
and saw your tired
face.
He put His arms around
you
and lifted you to
rest.
God’s garden must
be beautiful,
for He only takes the
best.
He saw the road was getting
rough,
and the hills were hard to
climb.
He closed your weary
eyes
and whispered
« Peace be
thine ».
It broke our hears to lose
you,
but you did not go
alone,
For part of us went with
you
to God’s garden
– your new home.
