Obituary of Chris van Rossem
Chris van Rossem passed quietly in his 84th year, on the evening of Monday September 20th, 2021. He will be greatly missed by his wife Lise and his children Fief; Peter and Lana; Greg and Perri; and Liesa. His grandchildren will also miss him – Mack; Tia and Brad; Peter and Caitlin; Skylar; Brian; Jamie and Michelle; Rourke; and Lief, and he was happy to have become Opapa to Norah, Spencer and Sophia.
He is survived by his younger brother, Joe and his wife Pam and his nephews, Chris and Susanne; Tim and Sophie; and his great nephew and nieces, Oliver, Emily, Millie and Ella. He will be fondly remembered by his friends from near and far, young and old.
Chris came to Canada in 1957 and shortly thereafter met Lise; they married in 1960 and raised 4 children together. They spent the first 23 years in Pickering, Ontario and all of their summers sailing on Lake Ontario. In 1977, Chris took his family sailing to the Bahamas for a full year. In 1981 Chris started Affiliated Lift Equipment in Mississauga, which moved them to Napanee and then later to Kingston and in the year 2000, the business was successfully transferred to Peter.
All will remember the Soling Regattas held on Hay Bay where he loved having everyone on the water. He taught sailing to anyone who had a desire to learn. Chris was happiest when sailing; it was the sheer joy of being on his boat with the wind in his sails.
