Obituary
Wagner, Christina “Tina”
January 26, 1928 – July 20, 2021
Christina “Tina” Wagner, formerly of Hague, SK, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Luther Special Care Home in Saskatoon, SK, at the age of 93, with family at her side. Tina was born to Henry and Katherine (Rathgaber) Rothenburger on the family farm near Hague, the third of their ten children. She is survived by three of her children, Linda Simpson, Garry (Sherri) Wagner, Bruce (Lynn) Wagner, her sister Mildred Vickaryous, as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 72 years, Joseph, at the start of this year, her son and daughter-in-law Tim and Pat Wagner, son-in-law Bill Simpson, and her oldest grandson Douglas Huchkowsky. She was also predeceased by her parents, all five brothers, and three of her sisters. Tina and Joe met at the Lutheran Church in Hague and were confirmed there together in 1942. They were married on July 30, 1948. Prior to their marriage, Tina attended the Normal School in Saskatoon in order to become a teacher. She taught for one year in a one-room school house in Fairholme, SK, before coming home to marry Joe. Joe and Tina started farming in 1948 on a yard close to the Wagner family farm. They moved to Terrace Bay, ON, that first winter to work at a lumber mill, but returned to Saskatchewan the next spring. They moved to the Wagner family farm in 1956 and resided there until they moved to Hague in 1985. Tina was the powerhouse that kept everything on the farm running on a day-to-day basis. She kept things running at home while Joe took on work away from the farm. Outside of the farm and her family, Tina’s life involved many things with the church, including being an active member of the ladies group, teaching Sunday School for years, and singing in the choir. In 1969, the family welcomed its first grandchild which is when Tina put on the hat of grandma extraordinaire. Tina and Joe loved to dance. They square danced and round danced, meeting many friends through dancing, including the ones they met while dancing their winters away in Mesa, Arizona. Tina and Joe would enjoy time in summer teaching their grandkids their love of fishing and camping at many lakes throughout the province. In addition to the adventures, Tina is remembered for her delicious cooking and baking, including her infamous chocolate chip oatmeal cookies remembered fondly by her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Tina and Joe moved to Luther Heights in Saskatoon in January of 2009. After Joe suffered a major medical setback in 2015, Tina moved to an intermediate care home. She was reunited with Joe at Luther Special Care home in 2017. They lived in side by side rooms until Joe’s passing. Thankfully, during these hard times we have all gone through, Tina and Joe were right next door to each other until his passing; they are now reunited. Tina’s Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Acadia-McKague’s Funeral Chapel (915 Acadia Dr.) in Saskatoon. The service will not be live-streamed, but a recording will be available online at www.faithproductions.ca/livestream a few days after the service. Interment will take place for both Tina and Joe, along with their son Tim and his wife Pat, on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at the Old Hague Cemetery near Hague, SK.
