Obituary of Charlie Whiteland
Entered into rest at Brockville General Hospital on Thursday, April 29, 2021. Charles (Charlie) Alfred Whiteland of Brockville age 98 years. Beloved husband of the late Jean (Fresque) Whiteland, loved by children Ted (Susan), Randy, Barry and Laura (David) Reilly. Cherished grandfather of Allison and Terri Whiteland (Jeff), Casey (Christa) and Jamie (Trisha) Reilly, great grandfather of Keanna and Calvin Whiteland, Chloe and Callie Reilly. Charlie is survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families. Predeceased by his parents Alfred and Lora (Chapman) Whiteland, and siblings Howard, Gwen (Harry) Lane, Shirley (George) Blanchard, Bernice (Bill) Dafoe and Keith (Ella and Sally) Whiteland.
Dad was still active golfing and driving his own vehicle until his mid-nineties and loved nothing better than showing that he could still putt with the best of them! With family support, Barry was able to make sure Dad’s desire to live out his life in his own home was honoured and made possible.
Many remember Dad as a second WW II Veteran (Air Force), community coach in a variety of sports, a member of the Brockville and Area Sports Hall of Fame, a long-time employee of Bell Canada for over forty years, and a great friend and neighbour but Dad would always say he was most proud of being a family man. He impacted the life of many through his mentorship, coaching, and being a friend.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Interment and a Celebration of Life of Charlie’s Life will be held at a later date. In memory of Charlie, donations to the Brockville Legion Branch 96 Poppy Fund, the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Charity of your choice would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville. Messages of condolence may be made online at www.barclayfuneralhome.com.
