Celine Myron 2021

Céline Myron
(née Zakrojczyk)
October 12, 1927- March 15, 2021
We are deeply saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Celine, surrounded and lovingly supported by her family and in her own home. She outlived the love of her life, our late father Joshua Myron (Stajnsnajder) by 24 months; they were together for 72 years. Celine will always remain the hero of her children, Kathleen Myron and Jonathan Sigler, Vivian Myron and Michel Moatti, and Philip Myron. She adored and was adored by her grandchildren, Max Sigler and Jamie Tajfel, Jesse Sigler and Imane Hani, Gregory Sigler, Zachary Sigler, Alexander Moatti, Charles Moatti, Jordan Korley- Myron and Ava Korley -Myron. Great-grandmother of Joey Rae Sigler. She will be missed by Carla Sotomayor, Rennie Bimman, Melyssa Fortin, and Jamie Horowitz; and fondly remembered by Victoria Korley.
Our mother was a champion, a Holocaust survivor who was born in Lodz, Poland but raised from infancy in Paris, France. She and her entire family were part of “le Rafle” (the round-up) of July 1942, when the Vichy government under Nazi rule arrested tens of thousands of French who were ultimately sent to their deaths in the camps. 14 year-old Celine managed to escape from the notorious” Vel’D’hiv”, surviving the war with help from the Resistance; her parents, Benjamin and Sarah, and her older sister, Genia, 17, perished upon their arrival in Auschwitz. Celine was loving, brilliant, elegant, tenacious and a voracious reader. A homemaker and volunteer extraordinaire, in her 40’s she attended the Université de Montréal, and in her early 50’s, began her career as the Director of Volunteers at the Constance Lethbridge Rehabilitation Center until her retirement at the age of seventy-six. Her family and husband always came first. Celine was a devoted friend, an accomplished cook and a couturiere (sewing beautiful clothes for herself and her children). She said it as it was and had a great sense of humour. A “belle coquette”, she loved people, life and above all the music of French chansonniers such as Aznavour and Piaf. She never complained.
The family wishes to express our enormous and heartfelt gratitude to the Cummings Centre, CLSC René-Cassin, NOVA and Mount Sinai Hospital Palliative Homecare Services. Tessie Derla, your loving care for the past five years allowed our parents to remain at home with dignity. Special thanks to our team of nurses, Jill Yu Tom, Joanne Cuerquis, Patricia Friessen, Olive Mukaniwa, Paula Habib, Emanuelle Lemenu, Allan Pick, OT Diane Bolduc; as well as to the case manager, Chloe Sebbag, and Drs. Walsh and Tradunsky. It took a village. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cummings Jewish Centre for Seniors. (514) 734-1825.
Mummy, Nana, we will forever cherish your love and the sage wisdom you imparted to us.
