Obituary
Cecilia MacInnis
(1938 – 2021)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Cecilia MacInnis. Cecilia was born the youngest child of Stanley and Victoria Kowalczyk, both Polish immigrants to Canada who settled initially in Whitney Pier and then moving to Meadows Road where Cecilia was born and raised. She later moved to Frenchvale to be with her loving husband of 58 years, Hugh MacInnis. Cecilia will be dearly missed by her adoring children Kelly, Brent, Lisa and Denise, along with granddaughter, Madison.
Cecilia had a full life that always focused on family first. She worked for many years in the home for the family business, Hugh MacInnis Lumber Ltd., and she was an active member of her community. Whether volunteering with St. Mary’s Church Women’s Auxiliary or playing community sports with her neighbours, such as softball and bowling, she enjoyed her time with friends. She enjoyed playing a mean game of cards and board games. Anyone who came up against her in a game of cards knew she’d greet you with a smile, but underneath, you knew you wouldn’t get off easy, as she loved to win, especially 45’s against Hughie. She enjoyed anything outdoors and loved to be in her annual vegetable and flower gardens and was often called “Mrs. Clause” as she loved decorating for her favourite time of year, Christmas.
She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends who can rest easy knowing she is with her parents and many brothers and sisters who went before her and knowing the love of her life, Hughie, was there to greet her with open arms.
You are our beautiful Mother and Nana, who will be in our thoughts every day and always remembered for the love you gave us, the laughter we shared as a family and your never-ending support of us in everything we took on in life. We love you forever and look forward to when we meet again.
Cecilia is survived by her children: Kelly, Brent (Melinda Cantwell), Lisa (Vic Melanson) and Denise and granddaughter Madison. Her brother J.J. MacLean along with extended family Ron Harvey, Margaret Ellen Currie and many nieces and nephews and friends who meant so much to her. She is predeceased by her parents Stanley and Victoria (Gawenda) Kowalczyk, sisters Mary Ross, Rose Marchand, Isobel Vassallo, Florence Hebb, Sophie Wambolt, Mary Mickey, Vicki O’Hagan, Stella Cameron, and Jennie Horne and brothers Joe and Johnny Kowalczyk.
The children would like to thank all health care professionals who took such great care of their Mother in both the Halifax Infirmary and Northside General Hospital during her short illness.
Due to limited capacity, as a result of COVID restrictions, a mass will be held on Wed., Dec 22 at 11:00am by invitation only with a Celebration of Life being held at a later date for further family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Parish, Frenchvale, NS.
