Memorial Donation
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Catherine Natalie (Doudelet) Hughes, 90, formerly of Thorburn NS, at her home in Evanston, NS. She was the youngest child of the late Alphonse & Eva (Ladriere) Doudelet of Belgium and NS. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mom went to Normal College in Truro and taught school in Charlos Cove NS, where she and Cedric made life long friends. Mom and Dad were married on Nov 11, 1949 and had seven children. They had a construction and concrete company and Mom was busy doing the bookwork for the business. In 1969 they moved to Port Hawkesbury NS, later moving to Port Hastings, where mom kept herself busy as jewelry store clerk, clothing depot volunteer, Director at the ROC Center. Besides this, they opened a campground and mom again did the bookwork and any other job that needed to be done. Mom also enjoyed planning Dad’s get togethers with family and friends.
Catherine, also known as Trin, Kaye, Mom, Nanny is survived by her children Eva (Gregor); Joanne (Wayne); Cedric Jr (also known as Sonny) (Alice); Jean (Walter); and Ellen. She is also survived by her sons-in -law, Paul Clark and Paul Matthews; sisters-in-law, Ellen Conway and Katherine Vincent (George); 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her chosen family from Charlos Cove: the Richard and Cashen families.
Besides mom’s parents, she was predeceased by her husband E. Cedric Hughes, daughters Nadine Hughes and Rose Marie Matthews; her sisters Florence Vacheresse, E. (Jennie) Casey; Harriette Campbell; and her brother Desire.
A special thank you to mom’s caregiver Angela and the workers of Richmond County VON for their wonderful care and compassion.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 3, 2021 from 7pm-9pm at Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday November 4, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church, Lower River Inhabitants; Fr. Duncan MacIsaac officiating. Burial will take place on November 11, 2021 at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Thorburn, Nova Scotia. Arrangements are under the direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St, Port Hawkesbury.
