Obituary
Caroline (Carol) Donna Crawford (nee Stevens), born December 11, 1940, and born-again March 1, 1983, rode off to be with Jesus on November 19, 2021. Mom was not your typical country gal, although she loved the country, horses, deer, birds and good, fresh air. A musician with a unique touch on the piano, accordion, and guitar, she wrote many songs and poems about life, the Lord, and victory. She went to MacTavish Secretarial College, and she said that was only because that was one of the few options given to women in her day. Always diligent, she proved herself an excellent Administrator retiring from the Forest Technology School in Hinton, Alberta, and then pursuing her passion of investing and assisting her daughter, Bonnie with R. Work Group for 30 years.
She was an advocate for all who were in need whether a small dog (one of her last words spoken was to check if her favorite pup Sweetpea had been fed, watered and given treats), or a family member or friend that she felt more kindness and compassion needed to be provided and she would speak up for them. Strongly intuitive, Carol knew if there was something wrong whether in your heart or in your actions – words often never needed to be spoken for her to know and understand. She never minced her words living true to Proverbs 27:17: “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Yet, you never felt condemned; simply loved and wiser for having sought her counsel.
Her family knew that compassionate and ardent heart of Carol, especially her husband of 61 years, Donald W. Crawford. Carol deeply respected Don’s practicality and attention to detail in fixing things. They were a team in handling the business matters of the farm. Carol would bring out her marriage vows and read them aloud even in the last few years reinforcing her passion for marriage and staying together in sickness and in health, for better and for worse. Faithful is a word that epitomized mom’s heart toward her husband and her children.
Her children, Ken Crawford (Colleen) and Bonnie Maguffee, and her one and only and adored grandson, Matthew Maguffee and Sweetpea miss her terribly already. Her one brother, Daniel Stevens (Dave Howlett) was someone she shared special memories with and treasured their renewed friendship in these last years. A special thankyou to Merv Edgecombe for standing by dad and being a good friend in this time.
Carol was pre-deceased by her special son-in-law, Jim Maguffee, sister Bonnie Douglas (Wayne), dad Ed Stevens and mom Lillian (nee Black).
Carol fought the disease “Farmer’s Lung” and wanted more research and a difference to be made for others. Memorial Donations may be made in Carol Crawford’s name to the Canadian Lung Association (Canadian Lung Association Tribute Gift).
