Carmen Franklyn Davidson
1948-2020
DAVIDSON, Carmen Franklyn of
Minasville, Hants County and formerly of Antigonish. It is with heavy
hearts that we share the news of Carmen’s passing on
Saturday, November 28, 2020. He passed away peacefully with his loved
ones by his side after a brief illness.
Carmen was born on April 18, 1948 and raised in Country
Harbour, where his homestead sat on the hill overlooking
Vern’s Store, the family business, and Zion United Church
where he spent many hours of devotion. From the age of fifteen, he
juggled running the family business with his high school studies due
to the tragic loss of his two younger sisters, which left his family
devastated and a lasting impression on his life. At the age of
seventeen, he left home and settled in Antigonish, where he married
and raised his children until his later years when he moved to the
Fundy Region and ultimately to the HRM where he passed.
Carmen was a career salesman who achieved great success in
the life insurance business. He was consistently a top performer with
Sun Life Financial and a keynote speaker at their Million Dollar Round
Table. He held a strong belief in the importance of education and
instilled this value in his children who he inspired and supported
with their educational endeavors. In his adult years, he
took advantage of his proximity to St. Francis Xavier University and
enrolled in courses of interest to him.
Carmen loved swimming and downhill skiing and spent hours in
the pool and on the slopes at Keppoch Mountain where he volunteered as
Ski Patrol Leader for many years. He had a boisterous and
outgoing personality which facilitated his many friendships and
enjoyable times with family and friends. He engaged in politics and
was a lifelong supporter of the Liberal Party of Nova Scotia. Carmen
volunteered his time with the Antigonish Chamber of Commerce,
Antigonish Kinsmen Club, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, and
Tatamagouche and District Lions Club. He was a board member
for the Scotia Highland Dancers and a member of the Antigonish Masonic
Sunrise Lodge #116. Christmas was his favourite holiday and his
generosity during this time of year extended beyond his family to the
greater community.
Carmen is survived by his partner, Nancy Isnor, Minasville;
his three children, Annette (Randy) Bell, Florida; Craig (Brenda)
Davidson, Halifax; Suzanne Keay, Antigonish; sister, Charlotte
Sangster, Antigonish; brother, Edwin (Linda) Davidson, Halifax; the
mother of his children, Donalda (Ernie) Hafey, Antigonish;
grandchildren, Declan, Duncan and Aislinn Bell; Laura, Emma and Cate
Davidson; Hilus, Lily, Mhairi and Eilidh Keay; nieces, nephews and
their families; and Nancy’s daughter, Christine (Gary
Porter) Isnor, Dartmouth. He was predeceased by his parents, Vernon
and Hazel (Worth); sisters, Sheila and Sharon;
brother-in-law, Roger Sangster.
The family would like to thank the many healthcare providers
who compassionately cared for him over the course of his life.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held Thursday,
December 3rd at 1 p.m. in Hillside Cemetery, Country Harbour with
Lewis MacIntosh officiating. Social distancing protocols must be
followed. Donations in Carmen’s memory may be made to
