Obituary of Carl Carleton Carmichael
Age 86, of St. Croix, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side on Thursday, April 29, 2021 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born November 11, 1934 in Windsor, he was a son of the late Ned and Mae (Sawler) Carmichael.
Carl worked for 28 years with Halifax Department of National Defence and the Navy Base in Newport Corner. He enjoyed horse racing and a few of his horses were well known race horses at Sackville Downs and Truro Raceway. Carl grew many giant pumpkins and some were used in the annual pumpkin regatta; with Chip Peterson using Carl’s pumpkins for more than one winning race. He loved to hunt and time spent splitting wood. Carl was “a jack of all trades” and someone who loved to have a chat with anyone.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, the former Marina Burgess; son, Jamie, St. Croix; sisters, Diane Kingsman (Gary Myles), Grand Pre; Betty Flynn, Beaver Bank; Carol Arsenault, Lower Sackville; as well as several nieces and nephews; special thanks to close family friends, Harden and Donna Wile and family; nephew, Russell Burgess and his son James; for all their help.
Besides his parents, Carl was predeceased by his brothers, Donald, Edison and Reginald; and sisters, Florence Dykens and Joan Lewis.
Thank you to EHS Paramedics, Halifax Infirmary, QEII and the Palliative Care Unit at Hants Community Hospital for the care given to Carl.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Due to COVID-19 Health Guidelines, a private invitation only, graveside service will be held in Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix with Rev. Bill Gibson officiating. Donations in memory of Carl may be made to Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch 009, PO Box 28, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or Palliative Care Unit at HCH, 89 Payzant Drive, Windsor, B0N 2T0.
