It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Bruce Harold Cunningham after a battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at the TBRHSC on June 23, 2021.
He was born in Port Arthur, Ontario on February 18, 1946. He moved to Guelph, Ontario in 1971 to go to college and there he met his wife of 49 years. She literally swept him off his feet. They moved back to Thunder Bay in May 2007 and bought a lovely home just outside the city in Gorham township. He got a job at McDonald’s (Red River Rd.) where he worked for nine years in maintenance and his wife was employed at Salvation Army as head cashier until they both retired in 2016. He was known as the icon by his manager and other top CEO’s as they trusted and relied on him to make sure everything was ship-shape. He really enjoyed his fishing trips with his wife and two sons (Cliff and Ron), especially the summer of 2009 at Sandbar Lake with the bear that would not go away. Mr. Bear had a taste for Ron’s Reese’s Puff’s cereal. They enjoyed many times together. His other passion was cooking delicious meals, some fancy (beef bourguignon) and some plain, but very tasty. Onions in everything. His latest enjoyment started on Super Bowl Sunday in February playing Trivial Pursuit over the phone with son (Ron) as his partner against his other son (Cliff) and wife, Nancy as partners. Bruce will always be remembered doing his favourite thing, sitting in a chair, drinking a beer and being the greatest sidewalk superintendent ever.
His father Harold (Percy) Cunningham is in Hogarth Riverview Manor. Bruce was predeceased by his mother Joyce (Rumelhart) Cunningham, his grandmother Erie (Gregory) Hann and his daughter-in-law Barbara Jane (Hazelton). Bruce will be lovingly remembered by his wife Nancy (Hayhurst) Cunningham, his kissing partner Trixie, his son Cliff and Cliff’s furry companion Wizzy of Mississauga, and his son Ron Goulden and Ron’s wife Linda (Robinson) Goulden of Wilsonville, On.
The family would like to thank the paramedics, the emergency staff and 1A oncology staff for your compassion and care. A special thanks to Dr. Mezra, Dr. Del Paggio, Dr. Simpson, Dr. Anthes and all the staff at the Cancer Care Centre for all your care and support.
