In loving memory of Brian Norman Cottam who passed away in Sudbury, Ontario on Friday, June 18th, 2021 at the age of 75.
Brian was a loving father to Joanne (Mark) Blondin, Norm (Linda) Cottam, and Kevin (Kyla) Cottam. Cherished grandfather of Steven (Sabrina), Chelsey (Morgan), Ian; Matthew, Benjamin, Lara, Ella; Cole, and Kaitlyn. Proud great-grandfather to Elena.
Brian was born in Nestor Falls on January 6, 1946 and grew up helping his parents run the family-owned, Red Deer Lodge on beautiful Lake of the Woods. He left Nestor Falls in 1964 to attend Civil Technology at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto. After graduating he worked for the Town of Fort Frances before accepting a position as an Engineering Assistant with the City of Sudbury. This blossomed into a fulfilling 30-year career retiring in 2001 as Assistant City Manager. Brian went on to consulting work and the RBC Royal Bank before officially concluding his professional career in 2015.
Brian’s passion was creating joy in others, especially cherishing time with his three children, nine grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He was looking forward with excitement to the arrival of his second great-granddaughter in July.
Throughout his life, Brian was always willing and able to help others and spoke passionately about his ongoing work with the Rotary Club of Sudbury. He shared his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren creating countless memories of boating, camping, fishing and hunting together. Family and friends can attest to his never-ending joy of hosting “get-togethers” and love of good food, drink and lively conversation that often carried well into early morning hours. Honoring this and in accordance with his wishes, a celebration of life for Brian will be held at a later date.
Brian is reunited with his parents Norman and Pauline Cottam (nee Usciski) as well as his sister Phyllis Bosnick who are all predeceased. Brian is loved by many and will be forever missed.
