It is with deep sadness that after a sudden decline in health after a prolonged illness, we share the news of the passing of Albert Brian Hunter in Cornwall, Ontario.
Predeceased by his father Albert, mother Marjorie, and sister Anne, Brian leaves behind his wife, Barbara Jean, three daughters Leslie, Susan (John), Aileen, his son Jeff (Natalie), step-sons Stephan (Chantal) and Edward (Elaidia), numerous grandchildren, along with many cousins and friends.
Brian’s parents found their way from Northern Ireland and Wales, eventually settling in Park Extension, Montreal where they established themselves in various commerce around the city. Brian graduated from T.M.R. High-School and went on to work with Bell Canada before joining the Westmount Police Department in 1957. In 1974, Brian joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and served in “C” Division (Quebec) for the duration of his career (1974-1997). He was promoted twice and retired at the rank of sergeant. He was the recipient of the Canadian Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers, the RCMP Long Service Medal, as well as a National Headquarters Veterans President Award for his volunteer work throughout the years.
Brian was also heavily involved in numerous service groups and associations including the Ottawa area R.C.M.P. Veterans, 306 Wing RCAF Association (Montreal), 555 Air Cadet Squadron (Montreal), the Royal Canadian Legion (Dorval, Roxboro and Cornwall) as well as volunteering with Camp Massawippi (MacKay Center for Rehabilitation – Montreal) and the Agape Center (Cornwall)
Grateful thanks to the palliative care staff, nurses, and assistants at the Cornwall Community Hospital Janet MacDonnell Pavilion. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Ottawa Heart Institute, or the Cornwall Community Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
Resting at the Wilson Funeral Home, 822 Pitt Street, Cornwall, where visitation will be held on Monday August 2, 2021 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A funeral will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday August 3, 2021 at 11:00AM. Interment to follow at 3:00PM in Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
He will be greatly missed by many. Respect and gratitude for his service.
