With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the passing of our husband, dad and granddad, John, on February 17, 2021 at the age of 70, ice climbing in Maligne Canyon – something he loved second only to his wife and family he adored so much.
His memory will be cherished by his wife of 46 years Dianne; sons Jeremy (Jess), Eric (Lori), Simon (Andrea); and, of course, his cherished grandchildren Eleena and Tristan.
He will also be sadly missed by his brothers Ed (Pat), Frank (Shirley) and sisters MaryAnne, Betty (Paul).
John will also be leaving a hole in the hearts of Dianne’s brothers and sisters who loved him as one of their own: Yvonne (Pat), Keith, Betty, Leon, Lynne (Marv), Guy, Pat, Dennis, Alan (Tannis); and so many nieces and nephews that will truly miss the teasing John did so well only because he loved and cared so much.
John wasn’t immune to the heartache of loss as he was predeceased by his Mom, Eda and Dad, Harold as well as Dianne’s Mom, Hazel and Dad, Guy. He also lost Dianne’s brothers Charlie and Gerry and sister Yvette who were like losing his own.
Dianne is not ready to let John go yet as he has passed way too soon, and she was not prepared for continuing his legacy alone even though we know he will always be by her side.
He will be cremated, and the family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
The family is truly very grateful for the first responders at the scene who gave their all for John.
The outpouring of heartfelt condolences and stories and love from so many people that John had touched in so many of his passions in life is helping the family get through this surreal time.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army as this was always very close to John’s heart and felt this organization was truly committed to helping those in need. Another choice may be the Heart and Stroke Foundation or, of course, to any Charity of choice as we all know that John was very community minded.
