Billy’s Obituary
NEWELL, Billy Milton – age 78, died peacefully surrounded by family at home on July 30th, 2021 from complications due to advanced Parkinson’s Disease. Born on December 13, 1942 in Swim’s Point, CSI, he was the son of the late Milton Allison Newell and the late Freda June (Smith) Newell. Billy celebrated his 58th anniversary with his wife Lois Ann (Newell) Newell on July 12th, 2021. Along with his wife, he is survived by: his daughter Lisa (Newell) Devine and her children Joshua, Amy and Jamie of Yarmouth, NS; his son Andrew Newell and wife Shana (Nickerson) Newell and their children Peyton, Paisley and Paxton of Newellton, NS; sister Lorraine (Barry) Bower of Saint John, NB; brother Dwayne (Renee) Newell of West Head, NS. He was the grandson of the late Allison and the late Hazel (Swaine) Newell and the late Spencer and the late Carrie (Penney) Smith. Billy was a gentle and easy-going man who was an extremely hard-worker; he enjoyed working long hours and providing for his family. He was a lobster fishing captain for over 50 years and was one of the best irish-mossers ever. He started “mossing” at age 14 and he continued for over 45 years. If you had a lobster car to move, Billy was your man. He loved to tease those he knew in a loving way. If you were one of the lucky ones to be teased by Billy, you know you meant something to him. Those who knew Billy knew he was an avid New York Yankees fan and he often teased those who didn’t cheer for his team. He often tried to convert them to cheer for the Yankees. He loved to travel with his family and visited many places including Florida, Hawaii, Bermuda, Alaska, and many places throughout Canada. He really enjoyed taking cruises with Lois. One of Billy’s favourite pastimes was to walk across the road to visit his younger grandchildren at their house and feed Andrew’s cat “Bubba” every evening. His grandchildren were the “apples of his eye” and he was so proud of all of them. He was happy to have the opportunity to be baptized with his two youngest grandchildren, Paisley and Paxton, just three weeks ago, after he accepted Christ as his Saviour. The funeral service will take place Wednesday August 4th, 2021 at 2pm at Huskilson’s Funeral Home in Barrington, NS, with Pastor Bob Parker officiating. Due to Covid-19 restriction, seating may be limited to 150 people and social distancing guidelines must be followed (immediate family will be given priority for seating). Interment to follow at the West Head Cemetery, CSI. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the West Head Cemetery.
