Betty Ann Coy 2021

Obituary of Betty Ann Coy
Betty Ann Coy died at Burnaby Hospital on January 16, 2021.
She was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Charlie Rusch, her daughter Lillian in 2008, and her husband Douglas in 2019. She is survived by her son Brian Douglas Coy and two granddaughters, Kelsey and Megan MacDonald.
Betty was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, moved to Rock Creek at the age of one, to Courtenay at age nine and then to Oliver at ten where she stayed until she graduated from SOHS in 1959.
She then attended Victoria College after which she taught one year in Merritt and then married and moved to Salmo, B.C. where Betty taught for two years.
Betty’s last move was to Maple Ridge where her daughter Lillian was born in 1964 and then Brian in 1969. In between she taught in the elementary schools and took summer trips to England, Scotland and Hawaii as well as many places in Canada and the U.S. After her retirement in 1998 Betty pursued her interests in art and enjoyed many art travel trips to the islands of Saltspring and Gabriola, to Italy and to New York City.
Betty enjoyed being involved with others and was an active member of a church group, book club and several art groups (GAC, FCA, FVFCA).
After Betty’s first diagnosis in 2019 she teamed up with her son and Save-On-Foods to co-host a three day fund raiser for the B.C Cancer foundation. With much help from many relatives and friends, the project was a great success and it is on-going. Donations can still be made to the Treasure Chest Event in Betty’s name, by going online to bccancerfoundation.com.
At a future time her ashes will be interred at the Oliver Cemetery alongside those of her husband and parents.
