Obituary of Betty June Rushton
Rushton, Betty June (nee Dondale) of Glenwood/Lequille
Betty passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Januaury 17, 2021 at the Nakille Home for Special care with her daughter heather by her side.
She was born March 4, 1926 in the old farmhouse in Princedale, Annapolis Co., N.S. She was the daughter of the late Noble Dondale and Amy (Feener) Dondale. Following graduation from Annapolis Royal Academy, she was employed as a live-in full-time nanny.
In 1945, she married ‘The Love of Her Life’ Herman Rushton. They settled in Lequille for the next 58 years. Betty enjoyed her home and spent many happy hours baking (the cookie jar was always full), sewing, knitting and gardening.
She was an active member in her church, St. George and St. Andrew’s United in Annapolis Royal. Volunteering was an important part of her life, some of which included canvassing for various charities, Cape Hospital Aid, Meals on Wheels, 4H Leader and past Trustee of Woodlawn Cemetery.
Betty enjoyed nature and quiet moments at the cabin on Lamb’s Lake. Caring for her cats and feeding her birds were a favourite pastime.
She is survived by daughters Geraldean (Terry) Dimitroff, Collingwood, Ont., Heather (Royden) Campbell, Yarmouth, and daughter in-law Beth Rushton, Plainfield, Ont.; proud grandmother of Bill and Dan Dimitroff, Lynette Armstrong, Lauren Rushton, Amy Buckley and Emma Campbell; and great grandmother of Steven and Ryan Dimitroff, Bruce and Katherine Dunham, Chace and Ethan Dimitroff; and Luke Buckley. Also survived by sister Lorraine Saulnier, brothers Charles and George; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Herman, sons Bruce and David, brothers Karl, Warren and Phillip; sister Mildred Woodland and step-sisters Florence Robar and Kathleen Woodbury.
As per Betty’s wishes cremation has taken place. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
