Obituary
March 1st 1924 -December 22nd 2020
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Beth Irvine, a loving mother and fast friend to all who met her. To know her was to love her. She overcame two types of cancer in her life, but a third aggressive form of leukemia was more than she could handle in her 97th year. She passed away peacefully on December 22, 2020 with family by her side.
She was born and raised on the shore of her beloved Pigeon Lake in Mulhurst, Alberta. She married her high school sweetheart Eric Irvine, a pilot in the RCAF during WWII. After the war, they remained in the service and lived on several air force bases across Canada until retiring in Richmond, B.C.
Beth was multi-talented with her creative skills. She was highly accomplished at quilting, crocheting, knitting, painting and ceramics just to name a few. One of Beth’s most endearing qualities was the joy and satisfaction she gained by giving to others. She was also handy around the home and could repair almost anything. Beth was an avid Canucks fan who passionately watched every game cheering them on. She was a master scrabble player who enjoyed playing games with those who dared to take her on. One of Beth’s favourite past times was enjoying the view from her Sechelt deck and feeding the stellar jays and squirrels with peanuts out of her hand.
Predeceased by her devoted husband Eric, son Ian (Brenda), sister Lorraine, and brothers, Leslie and Sonny. Beth was the beloved mother to daughter Janice (Charlie) grandmother to grandsons Bill (Vern) and Thomas and granddaughter Mandi. She was the G.G. to great granddaughter Maya. Beth had many nieces and nephews who she loved very much. She was affectionately known as gramma Beth or G.G. Beth by many other friends she thought of as her own extended family. John, Max, Joanne, Lorne and Chris are among those who she felt to be family. She also became very fond of the new caring friends she made in Sechelt
Beth’s selfless friendly nature will be remembered by all she knew, but the unconditional love she offered her family and friends will be forever in our hearts, and an everlasting gift to cherish.
Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are welcome or to the Sechelt St. Mary’s Hospital for the outstanding care they provided.
