Beresford, N.B. – Sylvio Bourque, 62, formerly of Grande-Digue, drowned on August 17, 2021.
He was the son of the late Théophile and Irène (LeBlanc) Bourque.
He leaves behind his son, Daniel Bourque; his sisters: Marie Bourque Morin (late Jacques) of
Grande-Digue, Julia Frenette (Jean-Claude) of Dieppe, Denise Richard (Joe) of Bedec, Nélida
LeBlanc (Ola) of Grande-Digue, Corinne Bourque (Nelson Vautour) and Chantal Bourque
(Kevin Cox), both of Moncton; his brothers: Félix Bourque (Carol) of Saint John, and Edouard
Bourque (Michelle) of Grande-Digue; his partner, Paulette Roy of Beresford; one uncle, Félix
LeBlanc of Whitby, Ontario; the mother of his son, Mona Carroll Bourque; as well as five
nephews: Serge, Jeff, Jason, Jonathan, and Bruno; and four nieces: Lesley, Isabelle, Annie, and
Mélanie.
Sylvio was a remarkable person: father, brother, friend, teacher, entrepreneur, mentor, and an
exceptional athlete. Authentic, determined, tenacious, energetic, and helpful are but a few words
to describe his personality. Sylvio was fascinated by nature: hunting rabbits, fishing quahogs,
hiking, and camping. He also enjoyed playing cards, listening to music, and attending concerts.
Sylvio was passionate about arm wrestling and running. He is the most decorated Canadian of all
time at the World Armwrestling Federation Championships with 26 medals, including 6 gold. He
was an avid runner having ran marathons across the world. Sylvio was the founder and one of the
organizers of the 15KM de Grande-Digue as well as a recipient of la Fondation Louis-J.-
Robichaud Medal of Excellence.
Visitation will be held at the Passage Funeral Co-operative in Shediac Bridge on Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The funeral will take place at the Église de la Visitation in Grande-Digue on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 10:30 am. There will be no visitation the morning of the funeral.
Due to the large number of people expected, the family would appreciate mask-wearing.
