We are heartbroken to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Beatrice (Beatie) Martell of Rockdale, NS at St Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish on Nov 2, 2021.
Mom will be profoundly missed by her 4 children, Roger, Rockdale NS; Steve (Anne Marie) Rockdale NS; Charlene MacColl (Shawn) Port Hawkesbury; and Charmaine Fillis (George) L’Ardoise NS; her 5 grandchildren, Garrett (Candice) Victoria Mines NS; Janelle (Joey) Grand Greve NS; Colby (Megan) Rocky Bay NS; Dawson, Dustin both of Port Hawkesbury NS; and 4 great-grandchildren, Nola, Ivy, Maddox, and Jackson. Beatie is also survived by her sister, Alice Sampson who will miss her dearly as well as many nieces and nephews.
Beatie was predeceased by her husband John Martell; daughter-in-law Carolyn Martell; siblings, Harry, John, Helair, Pat, Fred, Melinda, and Mary.
After marrying Dad she spent her time raising her children and creating a loving home where everyone was welcomed to a homecooked meal or dessert and cup of tea. Never one to sit idle, and with her children grown, Beatie decided to go to work at the Richmond Villa as a PCW where she stayed for 15 years making many friends along the way. Upon retiring she focused her time back to her growing family with spending as much time as she possibly could with her grandchildren whom her world revolved around. An active member of the Holy Guardian Angels Parish she often volunteered with the Ladies Auxiliary and donated her time with benefits for members of the community. She later became a member of the L’Ardoise Jolly Club, looking forward to their events.
Beatie will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her social outings, love for babies, love to dance, love of fiddle music, a casual drink, hair curlers that she wore everywhere, her numerous aprons, and her impossible to replicate fudge recipe, which she often made as thank you gifts and for the trick or treaters. If you were lucky, you would receive some “just because”.
An amazing lady who would undoubtedly leave a lasting impression as the life of the party, her zest for life was something to marvel at.
A special thanks to the nursing staff at St Martha’s Regional Hospital, Dr. Pluta, the ladies from Homecare, and VON staff. The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to Gladys Bona, and Marilyn Davison for the wonderful care and dedication they showed our mom these last few months.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Sunday Nov 14, 2021 at the Holy Guardian Angels Parish funeral home from 1:00pm – 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday Nov 15, 2021 at 11:00am at Holy Guardian Angels Parish Church, L’Ardoise; Fr John Yake officiating.
Please note: as per provincial regulations, proof of full vaccination and masks are required to attend the Visitation and Funeral Mass. Burial to follow at a later date.
