My precious husband and best friend, Barry, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus. Steve, our son and Catherine (nee Douma), his wife, were by his side. He was a gentle, kind, giant of a man in height and character; he was fun-loving always with a twinkle in his eye. This Victoria boy married a Sidney girl and together they traveled the world completing their “bucket list” in the Antarctic in 2018. He owned British Welding Ltd and many samples of his designs and welding artistry remain on buildings in Victoria. He photographed many family luncheons & enjoyed my siblings, nephews, nieces and their children; especially Charlie’s tales of the back Country & Services poetry of the Yukon/Alaska. He lunched with school friends from St Louis’ College and the subject of classic cars never ceased. His life-long friendship with fellow prospectors enriched his life. During covid, his quick wit and grateful living caused the time to fly by. Our family & friends will always love him & cherish the memories. If he & I had lived many more years together, it would never have been long enough. Until we meet again, “dear one”.
Son – Thank you God for such a wonderful father & for so many years of constant laughs & adventures together. Dad was a gentle giant with a unique sense of humour & broad range of interests from backpacking & photography, square dancing, banjo & guitar, Rendezvous re-enactment & prospecting. He loved people & was perfectly happy talking to an old buddy with coffee in hand. He always had a funny story to light up your day & really embodied the best of an era with a truly sensitive heart – he was one-of-a-kind. I am very thankful for all dad taught me, his support, his kindness, & the many good times we shared. You’ll be deeply missed Pops, but life is short & I know the good Lord will reunite us in due time. Until then, I’ll continue the adventures, the prayers, the legacy, & look forward to sharing stories with you again some day. -Your son always, Steve
