Obituary for Barbara Jean Butler
Our cherished Mom and Nana passed away at the age of 81 on July 12, 2021. Our hearts are broken but she is at peace, reunited with people who love her as much as we do. She gave us our roots and now we must let her fly. She will be so missed and always remembered by her children Paul, Joanne and son-in-law Gavin, Sheila and Jeff, daughter-in-law Cindy, her grandchildren Christopher (Miranda), Matthew, Katie, Abigail and Alexandra and great grandchildren Emily and Liam, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews, and many family and friends back home in Newfoundland. Waiting for her with open arms (and hopefully the kettle on) are her mother Sarah, son Junior, brother Ben, mother-in-law “Mrs. Butler” and so many more. A heartfelt thank you to her wonderful second family at Queens Garden who so lovingly cared for her these last few years. We also thank the wonderful staff at St. Joe’s Hospital and the Hamilton General for their outstanding care and kindness. Our Mom and Nana was a woman of extraordinary strength and down-home wisdom. She easily struck up lively conversations, always finding a Newfoundlander (or anyone with a Newfoundland connection) wherever she went, whether it be in a crowded concert hall, the coast of Maine or a hospital waiting room. Never underestimate the power of hello. Take that with you and remember her. Cremation has taken place. The family will gather together to celebrate and honour her with stories, songs, love and laughter.
