Barbara “Bobbie” Barnes went to be with her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, August 2, 2021, at the age of 89 after a recent decline in health. Bobbie was born in Knoxville, TN to the late Veda Bounds Perry and Tom Perry. Bobbie was saved at a young age, and was baptized into the Christian faith in Love’s Creek by her future father-in-law, Rev. R.C. Barnes. She graduated from Central High School in 1950. As Bobbie would tell you, she married her “first grade sweetheart,” Bob in 1956. The first part of her married life, Bobbie devoted herself to her husband, and raising three hungry sons. (She thought she had become a military cook!) Later in life, Bobbie took a job as a night mother at Tennessee School for the Deaf because she “knew how to be a mother” and worked there for six years.
In addition to her parents, Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Barnes, Sr.; brother, Glenn Perry; sisters, Nadine Owens, Louise McNutt, Becky Griffin; and several nieces and nephews.
Those who are left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Vickie, David and Kelly, and Tim and Melanie; grandchildren, Hannah, Heather, and Tyler; several nephews and nieces; and many friends. The family wants to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Trinity Hills Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, August 5, 2021. The funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Bridges Funeral Home with nephew, Rev. Charlie McNutt officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 AM Friday at Asbury Cemetery for the 10:00 AM graveside service. Honorary Pallbearers are Jim Griffin, Robert McNutt, Ronald McMillan, Gerald Monroe, and Danny Haun. The Word of God was precious to Bobbie, so in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to The Gideons International at www.sendtheword.org so that Bibles can be provided for others. Arrangements by Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike, 523-4999. Online condolences may be posted at www.bridgesfuneralhome.com
