Barb Kelly Sunday May 9 2021

KELLY, Barbara Ann (nee Hall)
July 13, 1945 – May 9, 2021
It is with deep sadness and loving memories that the family of Barb Kelly announces her sudden passing on May 9, 2021 at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, in her 76th year. She was predeceased by her beloved parents Gladys (nee Ferguson) and Clare Everson, her birthfather Wilmer Hall, and her brothers Gordon (Marlene) and John Everson. Barb was the beloved wife of John “Jack” Kelly for 55 years. Devoted and loving mother of Kimberley (Kevin Whyte) and Scott (Yolanda Lummiss). Biggest cheerleader and incredibly proud grandmother of Josh, Andrew, and Jillian Whyte, Robin Lummiss, Emma and Alex Kelly. Cherished sister of Sharon Coombs (Doug). Fun “Auntie Barb” to Andrea Coombs Keenan (Gord), Kelly Woodwark (Jon), Kathy Hill (Mark), Sheryl McMacken (Drew) and Randyl Everson (Lynne), and their children as well. Last but certainly not least her four-legged companion Winston, who remained such a comfort and joy to Barb.
Barb knew many people and inspired her family and friends with her great sense of “spunkiness” and determination. She overcame her struggles with alcohol through A.A., and was so grateful to reach a place in her life where she could help others with the same disease. She dedicated many years of service to others through the local chapter and eventually as an area delegate, speaker and the vice-chairperson of the A.A. Trustee’s International Committee. We are so proud of you, mom! Barb was always passionate about politics and uniting people to get things done in the community. She went on to make local history as Mariposa Township’s first elected woman Reeve and then as the first woman Mayor of the City of Kawartha Lakes. After retiring from politics, Barb stayed involved as a member of the Ross Memorial Hospital Committee and the Arts Council.
Athletic, competitive and not one to sit still for long, Barb played baseball and curled in the Oakwood leagues for many years. She became an avid golfer starting at Crestwood and then at the Lindsay Golf & Country Club in her later years, as both a member and former president of the Ladies League. She loved the challenge, green surroundings and social nature of golf, and truly enjoyed her time with her dear friends and golf partners Donna Cabell and Pam Johnston. With all of her achievements and busy life, the most important thing to Barb was her immediate and extended family. She loved family gatherings and hearing about everyone’s news while enjoying a good meal and a homemade butter tart. Upon retirement Barb also discovered RVing and introduced her grandchildren to the joys of “glamping” at Balsam Lake, and she really enjoyed her trips south during the winter months. She will be forever loved, and forever missed.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Ross Memorial Hospital Emergency Department for their care. Arrangements entrusted to MACKEY’S FUNERAL HOME, Lindsay.Due to Covid restrictions, attendance to the service will be limited to 10 people only. This private family service will be held on Saturday, May 15 at 11 a.m., followed by cremation. A celebration of Barb’s life will take place once larger gatherings are permitted.
