Avis E. Moffitt
1928-2021
Avis E. Moffitt died peacefully at the Charlotte County
Hospital on February 18th with family at her side. Avis was born in
Milltown, N. B. on April 19, 1928, the daughter of Alice (Kerr) and
Earl Marsh and sister of Melba Bires. She grew up in Upper Mills New
Brunswick, going to a one room schoolhouse and then graduating from
Milltown high school in 1945, going on starting a career in
hairdressing and then married John M. Moffitt in 1950. When her
daughter Debbie started school, Avis went to work at the Employment
office and then went to work at A.E. Horne and Son. Avis and Johnny
moved to Scarborough Maine in 1970. She worked at several places
including Portland Motor Sales, (Bay Leasing Division), Willard
Daggett fish company, Deer Island lobster company, and McDonald Page
all in the bookkeeping, accounting positions, some being in management
positions. She worked in Portland area for 14 years and upon return to
Canada built a home on St. David Ridge in which she spent many happy
years. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, crocheting, embroidery,
dancing, especially clog dancing, playing scrabble and cribbage,
playing the piano, attending plays, local theatre and Broadway shows,
and travelling especially going on cruises.
Love of family was the utmost importance anything
from birthday parties, picnics, beach outings, holiday gatherings and
even pet sitting. She always enjoyed hearing stories about all the
great great nieces and nephews (whom she considered her
« grandchildren ») which always brought a smile to her face.
She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She was
predeceased by her husband John of 28 years, her infant sons Earle
Wayne and Douglas Eugene, her parents Alice and Earl Marsh,
sister Melba Bires and brother in law Johnny Bires and cousin
Marguerite Caswell (Kerr) Survived by daughter Debbie Moffitt of South
Portland Maine, stepson Ben Woodard (Joyce) St. Stephen, N.B. and
their children and grandchildren, sister in law Ann Carson Old Ridge,
nieces and nephews: Kathy Despres , Saint John, and step
grandson Jacob, John Bires , St. Stephen, David Bires Sr (
Susan) , St. Stephen , Marsha Gagnon(Ray)of Orlanda Florida, Amy
Gagnon, New York City, Emily Gagnon, Atlanta Georgia , Rebekah Smith
(Jason) and their sons Noah and Marshall of Little Ridge N.B., David
Bires Jr (Nikki) of Oak Bay, their son Jayden Roy and
daughter Madison Bires, Sarah Brown (Tim) of New Maryland, N. B.) and
their daughters Isabelle and Claire and son Elliot, John Lee Bires
(Maria) of Mohannes, N.B. and his daughter Rachel Milligan, Sonia
Booth (Allan) of Heathland, Kelly McCready (Jim) of St. Stephen,
Eugene Carson (Debbie) of Oak Bay, Danny Carson (Stacey) St. Stephen,
Linda McPhee of Milltown Maine, Stanley Clark of Maine, Judy Green
from Texas, Natalie Tittenger of MA, Jack Green,
Robert Green and numerous others from across Canada. Cousin Peggy
O’Dell of Kingston Peninsula, Douglas Kerr from Saint John and
Leoniece Kenison of Robbinston Maine. She was also survived
and considered « grandma » by her « adopted » Rwandan
family; Simon, Christine, Erica, Samuel, Keziah, Buntu, and Bgiza all
from Texas.
The family will receive friends at The S. O. Mehan &
Son Funeral Home Ltd., 23 Main Street, St Stephen, NB on Tuesday,
February 23, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Due to COVID-19 regulations,
there will be a private funeral service, however family and friends
may view the livestream on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 2
PM.

Interment at St Stephen Rural Cemetery, St Stephen,
NB.
