Obituary
REBMAN, Aubrey Lawrence, died peacefully at his home in Bracebridge, in his 90th year, on January 27th 2021, surrounded by his loving wife and three daughters. His passing is mourned by Arla Jean (Dennis), his beloved wife of 65 years and his cherished daughters Joanne Moilliet (Deric), Sharon Allum (Brian) and Jill Rebman. Aubrey was a loving grandfather to Sarah Moilliet (Jamie Bell), Ryan Moilliet (Rebecca), Jessica Allum and Miranda Allum and proud great grandfather of Jaxon and Madison Bell.
Aubrey, born on December 30th 1931 in Barkway, Muskoka was the eldest son of the late Wesley and Florence Rebman. He is survived by his eldest sister Eileen Taverner (John), and younger brother Ken Rebman (Marilyn) and predeceased by his sister Grace Taverner (Jim).
Growing up and working on the family dairy farm, Aubrey developed a love for horses and a strong work ethic that he carried with him until his final days. Aubrey met Arla through their mutual love of horses and were married May 21, 1955 in Bracebridge, where they made their family home.
After leaving the family farm, Aubrey pursued a career with Ontario Hydro where he worked for 35 years and retired in 1990 as a Lines Foreman. Aubrey was thoroughly committed to his family, friends and community. He was a long time member of the Bracebridge Lions Club, supporter of Muskoka Pioneer Power, and a driver for Meals on Wheels for many years. He was also a loyal volunteer of the Bracebridge Fall Fair to assist with the horse shows where he and Arla were recognized for their years of service with an award from the Ontario Agricultural Societies.
Aubrey lived his life with a strong commitment to his faith, always lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He served as a Steward and active member of the Bracebridge United Church where he was recognized as an Honorary Elder in 1982.
During their 65 years of marriage Aubrey and Arla were seldom apart, sharing a love for dancing, music, travelling to many parts of the world, attending horse shows across the province, enjoying winter vacations in Florida and spending time with family, and friends, both old and new.
There was no “tired” in retirement for Aubrey. In 1986, he and Arla purchased a cottage on Wood Lake which became a place where they continued to create many more cherished family memories, and where he stayed fit and found joy in tackling a list of never ending cottage chores right up until this past fall.
While his contributions to his friends and public service were important to him, the greatest love and deepest affection was for his family. His family will be forever grateful for the love and life lessons learned from this wonderful man.
Aubrey’s family would like to thank the dedicated members of the health community including Vicky, Cierra, Cathy, Susan, Carmen, and Shannon for their outstanding support and compassionate care during Aubrey’s brief battle with cancer.
A Service to Celebrate Aubrey’s Life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday February 6, 2021 at Reynolds Funeral Home. Due to Covid-19 restrictions attendance is limited and by invite only.
