Anne Marie Guerard passed away peacefully on January 18, 2021 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre. Anne Marie was born in Port Arthur on November 28, 1967 and she was a proud life-time resident of Thunder Bay. Anne Marie attended Corpus Christi School, EQ Jennings and Port Arthur Collegiate Institute. After high school, she attended both the University of British Columbia and Lakehead University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts & Education.
Following in her parent’s footsteps, Anne Marie was a proud member of the teaching profession, beginning her short teaching career in the Rainy River District before being disabled by a brain tumour. For most of her adult life, Anne Marie bravely and determinedly battled against her cancer and the increasingly debilitating effects of brain tumours and treatment. She continued her valiant fight until the end.
Anne Marie truly appreciated other people and like her father Jim, never passed up an opportunity to socialize. She enjoyed bowling, working out and plays at Magnus with her friends. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her family including gardening with her mother and pickling with her father and especially spending the summers with her precious niece and nephews at East Loon Lake.
Anne Marie will be sadly missed by her loving mother, Susan; sister Jennifer and brother John (Zoie); beloved niece Erin and nephews James and Patrick; uncles Ray Wielgopolan, Paul (Florrie) Weiler, Robert (Karen) Weiler and Joseph (Joanne) Weiler; all her cousins from the Guerard and Weiler sides of her family and including John (Lisa) Weiler and Sherry (Ken) Budzyk and all their families.
Anne Marie was predeceased by her beloved father James Albert Guerard; grandparents Theodore (Doc) and Laura Guerard and Mary Marcella and Bernie Weiler; aunts Joan Stefurak, Lois (Ray) Wielgopolan, Billie Liddicoat; and uncles John Guerard and John Weiler.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the care Anne Marie received for years from the Cancer Centre including from Dr. Margaret Anthes, recently for her strokes from Dr. Sweet and the staff at the P.R. Cooke Apartments and in her last days from the healthcare professionals particularly on Unit 2C at TBRHSC.
Given the current COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral for immediate family only will take place at Sargent & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St. Andrew’s Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorials to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, directed to the Northern Cancer Fund where Anne Marie was a long-term patient or the St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay would be appreciated. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
