Obituary of Aneitha Sheaves
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Aneitha Sheaves announces her passing on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Dr. Charles LeGrow Health Centre at the age of 86 with her loving family by her side. Born in Port aux Basques, Aneitha was the daughter of the late Alexander and Julia (Nee Ayers) Carew. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her children, Julie (Paul) MacRae, Campbell River, British Columbia, Gordon (Jane) Sheaves, Port aux Basques, Patricia Sheaves, Burnaby, British Columbia, Dan (Shirley) Sheaves, Linda (Bruce) LeMoine, both of Port aux Basques, Norman (Donna) Sheaves, Fort McMurray and Daphne Sheaves, St. John’s, NL. A proud grandmother and great grandmother, she will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Christopher Sheaves, Nicole (James) Crouch, Ryan (Holly) Sheaves, Catherine (Jason) Simms, Danielle Sheaves, Matthew Sheaves (Katie), Carly Sheaves, Caitlin Sheaves (Myles), Joshua Sheaves, Mei Lin and Li Jing Sheaves, Patrick and William O’Flaherty, and Felicia LeMoine, her great-grandchildren, Brody, Austyn, Thomas, Lucy and Ila; brother, Eric (Sylvia) Carew, sister, Selina Parsons, sisters-in-law, Mary Carew, Bernice Sheaves, Edith Shepherd and Ruth Fraser.Special thanks to her caregivers, Denise Harvey, Glenis Sheaves and Jocelyn Strickland.
Aneitha had been a very active person in the town of Channel-Port aux Basques for many years. Both her and her husband, Clifford started their own company in 1969 all the while raising seven children.
In 1989 she entered municipal politics serving as deputy mayor and mayor until 2013. In 2011 she was awarded the Provincial Seniors Distinction Award.
In 2002 she received the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal.
Business Woman of the year award NLOWE. For many years Aneitha was a member of Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre Foundation. She was also one of the founding members of the Gateway Status of Women Council.
Not to forget her love for her Tuesday afternoon bowling with her friends, which was some of her happiest moments.
Aneitha was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Sheaves, brothers, Alphonse (Geraldine) Carew and Frank Carew, brothers and sisters-in-law, Norman Strickland, Herbert Parsons, Louis (Madeline) Sheaves, Lloyd Sheaves, Wilfred (Eileen) Sheaves, Fred Sheaves, Eric (Mary) Sheaves, Joseph (Dorcas) Sheaves, Robert (Florence) Sheaves, Robert Shepard and Richard Fraser
In keeping with Aneitha’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving family and friends on Saturday, January 9th from 7:00-9:00 pm and Sunday, January 10th from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Oceanside Funeral Home, 23 Read Street. In keeping with Covid-19 regulations, the funeral service will be by invitation only. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 11th at 11:00 am, St. James Anglican Church officiated by, Rev. Jane Allen, interment to follow at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Barachois Hill.
