Obituary of Alvin William Schweitzer
Alvin (Al) William Schweitzer, of Regina, Saskatchewan, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2021 at the age of 82 years. Al is predeceased by his parents William and O’Tillie Schweitzer, brother Randy Schweitzer, and father-in-law Jim Strachan. Al is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Bonnie, devoted daughter Jodi Kalaitzakis (Bob Klisowsky), grandson Zach Kalaitzakis, sister Elaine Gattinger (Rob Martin), mother-in-law Isabel Strachan, brother-in-law Randy Strachan, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Al was born on the family farm on June 14, 1939 outside Neudorf, Saskatchewan. The family briefly moved to Kitchener and then returned to Neudorf while Al was still young. He started his career with Canada Trust, then Morguard Trust Company, and then went into business with his partner and friend Ted Corman. Later and until his retirement, Al ran his own commercial real estate and development business as well as helped Bonnie in her business. He was often seen spending time at the Golden Mile talking with patrons. His greatest happiness was his family. He met his soul mate Bonnie in 1980 and they were married in 1984. They had a wonderful life together travelling and cheering on the Riders. They enjoyed their beautiful backyard feeding squirrels, birds and all other animals who were lucky to find sanctuary there. For over 30 years, and to present day, Al and Bonnie lived beside Bonnie’s parents. Al was thankful to share a life of love, laughter, and good food with Jim and Isabel. Al was especially close with his daughter Jodi and grandson Zach, and was very involved in their lives and activities. In his retirement years Al liked coffee with friends, neighbourhood walks with Jack, and projects with Bob. Al is everything to his family, is deeply loved, and will forever be missed.
There will be a private Celebration of Life to honor our husband and father. In lieu of flowers, family and friends so wishing may make a donation in Al’s memory to the Regina Humane Society or a charity of their choice.
