Alphee Babineau (19322021)

(1932-2021)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Alphée Babineau (affectionately known as Al, Uncle Al, Dad or Pépère), who left us on Saturday, February 6th at 9:45 am, at the palliative care unit of The Moncton City Hospital. He was 88 years of age. His beloved wife of 65 plus years, Evelyn, was by his side as he passed away peacefully in his sleep after a lengthy struggle with congestive heart failure and COPD.
Born in Collette, Al was known as a calm, kind, level-headed and fair person. He was a proud military man who served in the Air Force for over twenty-nine years, joining up out of a desire to see more of the world. He did his work as an aircraft mechanic, took the family all across Canada and parts of Europe. He also served as a recruitment officer for Air Cadets while stationed in St-Hubert, Québec and ended his career with his most important assignment, working with jets in Voodoo control on the base in Chatham. He retired in his much-loved home province of New-Brunswick. He also worked for many years as a bartender and night manager at the Beauséjour Curling Club in Moncton after retiring from the service.
Al was an avid fan of hockey, Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins, in that order. A true family man, the hockey games he loved the most were those of his grandchildren, and he never missed a game. He was also very active socially, square and round dancing with his wife Evelyn for many years, and playing darts weekly. He took up painting in his fifties, acrylic landscapes that he gave to his children and grandchildren as gifts.
In recent years, he was very active with Remembrance Day services and enjoyed time with his fellow retired servicemen, many of whom were treasured friends.
Al will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Evelyn (born Perry), his children: Dan (Alison), Perry (Shelley), Marty (Jo-Ann) and Trish; his grandchildren: Brian (Rebecca), Renea (Scott), Tina, Dana, Julian, Tom (Cora) and Nicole (Adam) Binkley; his great-grandson, Samuel; his adopted great-grandson, Tyler and his step great-grandchildren: Connor, Jonah and Sebastian.
He will also be lovingly remembered by the future baby Binkley, due in March.
Al is survived by three siblings: Elva (late Ron) Cox, Irene (late Arnold) Roach and Yvon (Christine).
He was predeceased by his other siblings Albénie, Elvina (late Joe) Richard and Florence (late Eddie) Doiron, as well as many nieces, nephews, and many friends all around the world.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of the palliative care unit of The Moncton City Hospital for their compassion and hard work.
Any memorial donations (may be made in his name), to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be appreciated.
There will be no funeral services at this time, due to the Covid-19 restrictions. They will be held at a later date and time.
The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Cooperative Funeral Home ‘La Colombe’ Ltd of Tracadie.
