Allister Lundrigan
We, the family of Allister Lundrigan, regret to announce his passing on Thursday, August 19, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born January 22, 1936, in Sydney, he was the son of the late George and Alfrieda (Gosse) Lundrigan.
Until retirement, Allister worked at the Sydney Steel Plant. He was a member of St. Alban’s Anglican Church, Whitney Pier, where he was a long serving member of Parish Council and was involved with the Men’s Club. Allister enjoyed bowling and was a lifelong blood donor. Dad loved his blue Datsun truck that took the family to Loch Lomond every year from May to October. He also built a camper for it and we made many pilgrimages to Newfoundland to visit family. Dad was very proud of his Newfie roots. From the music to the people to the jokes – oh the jokes! He always had one ready to make people laugh.
In his younger years, he was a Scout Leader. He was also a backyard mechanic and self-taught musician. He played piano, squeeze box, spoons and harmonica by ear.
He was affectionately known by his grandkids as “Poppyworm”.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Shaw); daughter, Dorothy (Peter) Moores; son, Stephen (Kelley) Lundrigan; grandchildren, Shaw(Liz), Kristina, Kelsey, Stephanie, Alyssa and Stephen; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brian, Ellie, Isabelle and William Allister due to arrive soon; brother, Fred Lundrigan; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Allister was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Myers, Belle Duffney, Louise Lundrigan and Dorothy Lundrigan and brothers, Ed, John, Gordon and Bill.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 from 2-4& 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer Research.
