ALLAN CALVERT
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Allan James Calvert on Sunday, May 16, 2021. Al will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter Alison Stalker; grandson Andrew Stalker (Ryan); sister Evelyn; sisters-in-law Dorothy and Grace, and extended family including cousins, nieces, and nephews, along with friends and neighbours. Al was predeceased by his wife Margaret with whom he shared a beautiful marriage for 40 years until her passing in 1998; his parents Tom and Martha; his siblings Tom (Phyllis) and Eileen (Jim); sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Alice (Jim), Art (Grace), Molly (George), Ruth, Ken, Basil, and Elton; nephews Ryan and Mark, and nieces Marilyn, Beverley, and Averley.
Al was born in Winnipeg on August 20, 1935 and grew up in Fort Rouge. He had a long and successful career with the CNR and Via Rail. Al was a railway car technician (carman) by trade and worked in many areas of the railway including the control tower at Symington Yard and as car foreman at the depot (Union Station). Al enjoyed his working life and the camaraderie he shared with the many lifelong friends he made at the railway.
He loved Malachi Lake where he and his family spent wonderful summers at the cottage, swimming, boating, fishing, berry picking, playing ping pong, and board games. Al was a talented and skilled craftsman, doing much of the construction of the cottage in addition to building a guest house, waterfront storage shed, numerous docks, and many cupboards and
cabinets at home and at the cottage.
In his younger years, Al was athletic and participated in various recreational sports leagues, often with his wife Margaret, that included baseball, bowling, and curling. He also enjoyed golfing at the local public golf courses around Manitoba and skating with his wife at the Sargent Park skating oval. In his later years, Al kept busy with gardening, cooking, and baking. He kept his mind sharp until the end by watching Jeopardy every day and doing the New York Times crossword puzzles.
Most of all Al loved his family, always striving to make a beautiful life for them. He was a true gentleman who taught his family responsibility, acceptance, and forgiveness.
Due to current health restrictions, a celebration of Al’s life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Grace Hospital for their extraordinary care and compassion.

Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Allan J Calvert August 20 1935 May 16 2021..
