Allan Grant Proudlove
December, 1949 – October, 2021
Grant was born in Eston, Saskatchewan. He spent his formative years in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, Grant embarked upon a career with the Canadian Military. His time with the Royal Canadian Airforce allowed him to experience life in Nova Scotia, Alberta, British Columbia and his home ground of Saskatchewan, three years in West Germany and two years on the HMCS Provider. He had a multitude of adventures throughout his military career that he often reminisced upon. Grant loved his career with the military; the many, many people that he met and the many places he was able to visit. After 31 years of service Grant retired from the Canadian Military as a Warrant Officer.
Farm life held a pull for him and upon retiring he moved to a picturesque little farm overlooking Lake of the Prairies, Manitoba. Always open to new challenges, he took to raising Norwegian Fjord horses. He developed new skills; driving horse drawn wagons in the summer and sleighs in the winter. Baling hay, fixing fences, tending to ailing horses, tinkering with his cranky old Case & 8N tractors, mowing acres of grass with his zero-turn lawn mower, clearing snow blocked roads in winter, walks down to the lake, six wheeling up and down surrounding hills, star gazing beside a small campfire with family and friends was what he loved. It was his intention to make the farm his forever home, unfortunately, Grant began to experience health issues and in 2013 the decision to relocate to Vancouver Island was made.
In 2014 Grant received a double lung transplant at the Vancouver General Hospital. He was eternally thankful to his anonymous lung donor who allowed him an additional seven years of life, which he would not overwise have had. In spite of continuing health issues, Grant always remained active and maintained a positive outlook.
Grant loved his family dearly and unconditionally. He was a kind and generous man who had the ability to bring a smile to the face of a total stranger, with just a word or two. And this was something he did often.
Unexpectedly, Grant passed on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Victoria General Hospital.
He is sorely missed by:

Very special friends Ron and Steve, Bonnie, Ty & Jenny (all of whom he looked upon as family)
Nieces and nephews
A wide variety of friends in his military and lung transplant families.
He was predeceased by parents, Earl and Marion, and brothers Gary and Wayne.
News of Grant’s sudden passing brought a tear to the eye of many.
He will be sorely missed and will not be soon forgotten.
No funeral or memorial service will be held, at his request.
