The Meyer family sadly announces the passing of a fine husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Allan Duane Meyer late of Prince Albert, SK on October 9th, 2021, in his home at the age of 84 years.
Allan was born in Birch Hills, SK on April 14th, 1937, to Anchor & Ruby Meyer. Allan was quick to boast about growing up in Birch Hills, a small town where the sun always shines, and the people are the salt of the earth. Although he grew up in a poor family as the son of a garage mechanic, he managed to earn his way through university by building grain elevators throughout the province. Allan convocated from the College of Pharmacy in 1959 and moved to Prince Albert. There, Allan married Sharon (Moan) in 1963 and started a home and family.
Gradually, Allan took over the Medical Pharmacy with Wilf Lorenz and Dave Pickering. For 50 years he filled prescriptions, ran a business, attended conventions, and became a bedrock of the community. As his success grew, he gave back to the community by taking part in several community organizations. He served several years as a board member of the CAA, the Saskatchewan Pharmaceutical Association, the Birch Hills Historical Society, and was a Lifetime member of the Prince Albert Kiwanis.
In addition to keeping busy on boards and committees, Allan enjoyed the slower side of life with cabins at Waskesui, La Ronge, and Emma Lake. Whether a shack tent or a beautiful cabin, he was always at home in the bush, clearing trees, hammering nails, and fishing. His family has many fond memories of summers spent in the sun, on the beach, or in the boat. When the cold of winter came blowing from the north, Allan was just as happy snowmobiling or ice fishing as sitting in his office at the pharmacy.
In his retirement years, Allan could not be kept away from the drugstore, as he enjoyed his daily visits to chat with staff and customers. He also enjoyed gardening, loved driving around the city, reading the news, doing sudoku puzzles, and spending time with family.
It is his family that lovingly remembers Allan: his wife, Sharon; his sister Marilyn (Garry) Elviss; his three sons, Kevin (Lorelle Yeo), Trent (Josée Duschene), and Brett (Doreen Magalasang); his grandchildren Matthew, Graham, Dag, Katie, and Christopher; as well as several nieces and nephews. Allan was predeceased by his parent’s Anchor (Ruby) Meyer of Birch Hills, SK, and his parents-in-law Buddy (Pat) Moan of Shellbrook, SK.
A warm thank you to Dr. Gordon Surkan and the staff for their patience and wonderful care of Allan over the years, the Home Care Palliative Care team & Laura Hildebrand with the SHA.
