Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of Alice M Sale’ at the age of 90 years old.
Alice was the fourth child of seven. She attended school in Morinville until 1941 when her family moved to Athabasca where she attended the Parkhurst School.
At the age of 16 she married Adrian Sale` on June 16, 1948. They began their journey together working and living in a logging camp called Honeymoon Hill. The following year they moved to their farm next to where the airport is located today and then to a quarter of land across from the Sale’ farm. Over the next 26 years they had a mixed farming operation with dairy as the main business. Then in December 1972 Alice went to work on her first job for wages at Parkland (Blunts) Extendicare Nursing Home, in Athabasca till 1984. They continued to live on the farm but both Adrian and Alice worked in town. She often said these were her best years no cows to milk.
They decided to try retirement in Westbank, British Columbia but Alice was not quite ready so she went to work at Pine Acres Nursing home for 3 years. At the end of 3 years they decided to move back to Athabasca and bought a small hobby farm.
Alice was a person who loved her children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters. She had an infectious giggle, liked a laugh and a good joke, movies, music, singing and dancing, scrapbooking, learning and sharing the history of Athabasca County and the surrounding area. She left a treasured legacy of Albums with photos and detailed stories of the Boisvert and Sale’ families to each of her children.
She was a caregiver and hard worker who loved her job. She was well liked by all her bosses, work mates and patients. She continued to help seniors and the sick though out her life. It was her calling to help the needy.
Alice was a courageous and tenacious person who taught herself to drive and walk again after many years in a wheel chair whilst she lived in Pleasant Valley Lodge.
She was predeceased by her husband Adrian Sale’, her son Leonard Sale’, her parents Ovide and Rose Alma Boisvert, 1 brother Joe Boisvert and 4 Sisters: Rolande Nickolas, Theresa Schulte, Francis Struski and Simone (Chomchuk) Peredery.
Alice was loved and will be remembered and missed by her 5 surviving children and spouses Leona Snider (Ken), Lorna Haines (Don), Wayne Sale’ (Sheila), Gail Jensen (Henrik) Carol Sale’ and her brother Real Boisvert. She was known and loved by her 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
Thank you Dale at the Athabasca Community Chapel for providing all the arrangements.
