Obituary
Mr. Aldo Meli of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Antonietta Meli, passed away peacefully at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Thursday Oct. 14th 2021, at the age of 90 years.
Aldo was born on October 27, 1930, in Naples Italy to parents Giuseppe and Ermenia Meli. He was one of six children. As a child growing up in Italy, Aldo loved to swim in the ocean, diving and fishing. In 1951, Aldo met the love of his life, Antonietta and they became inseparable. In 1954, Aldo immigrated to Canada and Antonietta soon followed. They married April 13th, 1955. Aldo was a hard-working man, often working all day as a painter and then picking up jobs at night to make ends meet. He loved to garden and would share his garden crop with many. Aldo was a family man; he would make sure that there was always time for gathering as a family. The traditions of making homemade sausages, wine and pasta from scratch are ingrained in his children, grandchildren, family, and friends. As time went on Aldo and Antonietta’s family grew but there was always a seat for everyone at the long dining room table, where there were many stories, great food, laughter, and wine of course!
Aldo was a devoted husband to Antonietta for 66 years. He took great pride in his 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren: Son, Joe (Leslie) Meli: children (Lindsay and Ashley). Son, Tony Meli (Jackie): Granddaughter (Tara (Shaun) great grandchildren, Vienna and Vallyn; Grandson: Devin (Erika), great grandchildren Ayden, Easton, and Quinn) & Step Grandson Peter. Daughter, Rosie (Shawn): Granddaughter Karli (Darrell) great grandchildren, Zakkary and Parker) Granddaughter: Kimberli and Daughter, Patti (Brent) Grandchildren: Nathan and Isabella (Shawn).
Aldo will be missed by his brother Antonio (Lena) and his sister Rosita and sister-in-law Carmen all from Italy, Sister-in-law, Lina Rinaldi/Italy, Anna Meli/Lethbridge, & Susan Rinaldi/Kamloops. Aldo had many nieces and nephews that were very fond on him and will miss him dearly.
Aldo was predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Ermenia Meli, and Antonietta’s parents (Antonio and Anna Maria Rinaldi) his brothers, Armando Meli and Mario Meli (Ciara) and sister Rosaria Antulov (Danny). Brother-in-laws, Salvatore Rinaldi, John Rinaldi and his son Oliver Rinaldi, and Sister-in-Law, Tina Pantaleo (Angelo).
The family is very grateful for the loving care that Aldo received from his doctors Dr. M. Cassis & Dr. M. Wong, Dr S. Zielke and the many other medical staff and doctors at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital.
A Private Family Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at ST. BASIL’S CATHOLIC CHURCH. A Private Family Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
If family and friends are so inclined, a donation to the Canadian Diabetes Association, or Heart & Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers, would be honorably accepted. Aldo’s family feel that the best way you can honor him is to keep your families strong and together and be kind to one another.
