Obituary of A.D. MacDonald
Our dad, Alexander Duncan (A.D.) MacDonald, has left this great life on his own terms shortly after celebrating his 84th birthday. Born in Antigonish he was a son of the late Huntley and Effie (MacIsaac) MacDonald, Brierly Brook.
When his cancer returned last fall he chose to spend his final days with his wife and best friend, Catherine Isabel, by his side at their piece of paradise in Loch Katrine. As a man of few words, when he spoke you listened, whether his children, grandchildren or the many children he transported on the school bus over his 37 years.
It’s with our deepest regret we announce the passing of our brother and son Mark, of Penticton, B.C. who came into this world on the same birthday as his dad (Feb 4, 1966) and left us the same day as our dad March 15, 2021.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Catherine, children John (Cindy), LeeAnn (Mike Hobbs), Darryl (Tammy), daughter-in-law Daphne, his grandchildren whom he adored, Keigan, Kaela, Tyler, Taylor, Cara, Brandon, Mathew, Christopher, Reece and great grandchild Duncan Joseph (Dody) Keith MacGillivray, brothers Kenny (Irene), Carroll (Ruth), Wilfred (Myrtle), Jermaine and Bernard, sisters Lillian, Mary Eileen and Evelyn, sister-in-law Margie MacDonald and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Mark, brothers Leonard and Terrance, sisters-in-law Nancy MacDonald, Carol MacDonald, brothers-in-law Richard Urysty, Ron Carson and Kenzie MacIsaac. A.D. had a special place in his heart for his in-laws, Fr. Daniel, Annette, Jean (Hughie) Bernie (Marion), Allan (Loyola), John Archie, Mary Margaret and Roberta (Charles) and nieces and nephews who called him Papa D.D.
Special thanks to staff of the Palliative Care Unit, St. Martha’s Hospital, the VON, Dr. Patsy McKenna and Dr. Marion Che for all your support and excellent care provided. Also, to his only daughter LeeAnn who was by his side until the end. We will be forever grateful.
There will be no visitation due to COVID-19. Private Family funeral will be held on Saturday, March 20 in St. Andrew’s Church, St. Andrews with brother-in-law, Rev. Daniel MacDonald presiding. Burial in the South River Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Martha’s Palliative Care, VON Antigonish, Red Cross or the Canadian Cancer Society.
