Tributes
Rivington, Douglas Gordon
November 7, 1932 — April 20, 2021
Doug passed away peacefully on the evening of April 20, 2021. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty years Helen, nee Bradley, and by his parents, Myrtle and Ruggles Rivington. Doug was a wonderful father and was dearly loved by his five daughters:
Susan (Dan Chapman), Beth (Sam Moss), Anne Louise (Dave Jensen), Jennifer (Don Carss) and Connie (Steve Howie). He was the cherished grandfather of Jennifer Scott (Jeff Manderson), Kacey Chapman (Jordan Crosby), Emily Moss (Brian Pelayo), Jane Morley (Jacob), Maggie Moss, Sarah Moss (Drew Smith), Michael Jensen (Morgan), Connie Jensen (Eric Sullivan), Rebecca Jensen (Andrew McIntyre), Douglas Carss, Scott Carss, Ryan Howie (Devon Larock), Alison Howie and John Howie (Holly Truchon). Proud great-grandfather of Finn and Samuel Morley, Tyler, Connor, Walker and Sawyer Manderson, Dylan Crosby, Taylor Jensen, and Carter Sullivan. Doug is survived by his loving sister, Helene LeBarron (Keith) and was predeceased by his brothers Neville (Bunty), Glenn (Olive) and Donald.
He will be fondly remembered by Erva Rivington, Sid Bradley, Beth Burke (Ed) and Grace Bell (late Ray) and by his many nieces and nephews. Doug was a lifelong Carp resident and successful businessman. As a proud member of the West Carleton community, he was always happy to volunteer his time and expertise. In 1967, Doug was Chairman of the school board and was instrumental in building Huntley Centennial Public School. He was a dedicated member of St. James Anglican Church, served as President of the Carp Agricultural Society in 1968, and was influential in the local farming and construction industries. Doug and his wife Helen operated a successful dairy farm and were recipients of Carp Fair’s “Meritorious Service Award” for their contribution to agriculture. Their construction company, “Rivington Homes”, built many quality custom homes in West Carleton. “Doug Rivington Park” was commemorated, in 2016, by the City of Ottawa in recognition of Doug’s extensive community service.
Doug was a kind and generous man who led by example and will be remembered by many as a mentor and friend. The family would like to thank the Courtyards on Eagleson for their compassionate care. Due to Covid restrictions a private service will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Live streaming will be available. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. James Anglican Church Memorial Fund or to the Carp Agricultural Society would be appreciated by the family.
